Kelly Clarkson reveals her thoughts on Carrie Underwood’s new American Idol gig. Though both came from American Idol as winners, they have had very different paths to success. Katy Perry’s exit from the judge’s chair leaves the potential for someone else to help hopefuls achieve their dreams.

Kelly Clarkson And Carrie Underwood

Kelly Clarkson is best known for her music and hit songs like “Since You’ve Been Gone” and “Breakaway.” However, she is currently known for her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. The hit series has 5 seasons and first aired in 2019. The talk show that airs on NBC showcases stories, live music performances, games, and twists.

Kelly Clarkson first hit it big when she won the first season of American Idol in 2002 at just 20 years old. Her first single quickly became a hit, but she eventually reinvented her sound to be more rock-oriented once she got a new manager, Jeff Kwatinetz of The Firm. Clarkson was also a judge on The Voice Season 14 to 21 but left the show to take care of herself.

Carrie Underwood was the winner of Season 4 of American Idol in 2005 at 21 years old. She is best known for her country hit, “Before He Cheats,” which is still a fan favorite at many karaoke sessions today. The hit song became the first country song to sell over two million digitally and was one of the best-selling country songs in history.

Carrie Underwood is beginning a new part of her career similar to how Clarkson was a judge on The Voice. Katy Perry is leaving American Idol to focus on her music career and Carrie Underwood will replace her as the newest judge.

What Does Kelly Clarkson Think?

Clarkson has something to say about Underwood’s addition to the judges’ team. Clarkson told E! News that she is thrilled about Underwood joining American Idol as a judge. Additionally, Clarkson said, “I think that’s brilliant. Like what better person to have–somebody that’s won that show to come back.”

Furthermore, Clarkson discussed what she had to do as a judge and what Underwood will have to do too. She expressed how she would, “look at these artists and go, ‘No, no, no, this isn’t lip service. I’ve been you literally, and this can happen, and it’s a lot of hard work.”

It must feel better for competitors to have a judge who knows exactly what they are going through and has experienced it in almost the same way before. Clarkson is confident that Underwood won’t just tell contestants what they want to hear, but be truthful with them as she would want the same for her after everything she has experienced in her career.

Moreover, Clarkson explained how it’s indispensable for someone “to look at you and go, ‘Ok, they’ve done it and they’re sitting right there. So that means I am capable of doing it. I can dream that big.” This will be a new wave of inspiring young talent for Underwood.

Past And Current Judges Opinions

Simon Cowell even shared his opinion. He said, “I think it’s a good choice. Carrie, we go back a long way. I remember her audition like it was yesterday. She was so good, she’s such a sweet person.'”

Underwood will not follow in the footsteps of Simon Cowell. She has expressed that she will offer constructive criticism and tell the truth but do it with kindness.

On this note of being truthful, but kind, Underwood said, “And I think that’s the whole point, because people are coming in and its dreams. You’re part of somebody’s story from that moment on.” She is correct because whatever she says to these contestants, even if she forgets, they never will.

Lionel Richie is also happy about her becoming a fellow judge with him and Luke Bryan. He is most happy about the background that she will be bringing to her role.

Richie stated that it has previously been hard to fully express to other contestants that they know how they feel, “Now we don’t have to explain anymore.” He continued by saying, “As artists, we know how you feel, but we’ve never been in that oval that says, American Idol. She’s been there, done that.”
