Author Of Gosselin Family Book Believes Kate Abused Collin
In a recent interview, Collin Gosselin leveled some serious allegations against his mother, Kate. Jon backed up his son’s claims, saying Collin’s sister Hannah said it really happened. Kate hasn’t said anything, but her lawyer has downplayed the allegations.
Now, the woman who wrote a book about the Gosselin family has weighed in on whether Collin’s allegations are true.
Collin Gosselin Says Kate Abused Him As A Child
Collin Gosselin said that his mother had a small room in the basement with a lock outside the door. The room had one bed and a video camera. According to Collin, when he was a child, his mother would zip-tie his hands and feet and lock him in the room. Sometimes, she would leave him there for a full day.
Collin started talking to his teachers about how Kate was abusing him, and child protective services began to show up. That is when he said Kate had him diagnosed with several mental health issues and institutionalized him when he was 11. While he said he didn’t know why it was happening, he believes Kate was trying to silence and discredit him in case protective services began asking questions.
Collin finally got his location released to his dad, Jon, after a long stay in the mental health facility where his mother left him. Jon got custody, and Collin went to live with his dad. He then graduated with honors and joined the Marine Corps. This is when Kate made a social media post saying that Collin needed to be locked away again.
After this, the Marine Corps paid attention to her words and ended up discharging Collin while investigating his mother’s claims. Collin has now released his medical records showing he does not have any of the mental health issues his mother had him diagnosed with.
Gosselin Biographer Sides With Collin
Polly Kahl wrote the book Jon & Kate Plus Wight: “Realty” TV & The Selling Of The Gosselins. According to Kahl, she doesn’t “have difficulty” believing Kate was abusive of Collin when he was a child.
Kate had Collin institutionalized with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and PTSD. He ended up institutionalized for two years.
Kahl admitted that Collin likely had an accurate diagnosis at the time, with “PTSD from being on the show and from things at home.” However, Kahl said nothing that Collin ever did during filming of the show was bad behavior.
“I think that he was treated badly, and any bad behavior he had was probably a result of him being treated differently from the other children,” Polly said. However, even if a child is a “danger” to others, “no prescription would include locking a child in a secluded area and zip-tying their hands and feet together.”
Polly then admitted to what she saw while the Gosselin family filmed the reality show. She said Kate isolated him and did not allow him to play with the other kids. “He got a lesson over a period of time that he was not as worthy … not loved as much, and didn’t deserve … good treatment, as well as his siblings did,” she said.
