Real Reason Marlon Wayans & Family Left ‘In Living Color’
Today, everyone knows Marlon Wayans and his comedic family of brothers. Decades after they all got their big break on In Living Color, the actor dished on what finally led to his family leaving the show that essentially made them famous. So, what did he have to say?
Marlon Wayans Was One Of The Biggest Stars Of Comedy
Marlon Wayans still has an active career in the spotlight today, but, there’s no question that he reached his peak as a comedian and an actor from the late 90s to the early 2000s. It was during this period of time that Wayans starred in some of his biggest hits.
Some of Marlon Wayans’s most iconic roles include parts in White Chicks, alongside his brother, Shawn Wayans, Terry Crews, and more. There was also the spoof comedy/horror Scary Movie franchise, which resulted in several films in the early 2000s as well.
Marlon And Family Got Big Break On In Living Color
Before any of the Wayans brothers truly made it big, it was the sketch comedy show In Living Color that really put them on the map. The program aired from 1990 to 1994, and it was created by Marlon’s older brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans.
By all accounts, the show was a huge hit with both the network and the audience. This led to an immediate rise in profile for the entire family, along with the “big checks” that came with that success. Still, even though the rest of the Wayans brothers did find success elsewhere, Marlon recently talked about what made them leave the lucrative gig in the first place.

Why Did Family Leave Popular Sketch Comedy Show?
According to Marlon Wayans, he said: “I remember when we left In Living Color because Fox was syndicating the show and it was hurting Keenen’s pockets. Keenen was like, ‘Nah, you ain’t gonna do this to me.’ My family said, ‘F*** this money.’ And we all left In Living Color.”
Loyalty is often a thing that is tested the most. This is especially true when money and fame come into the picture. The way Marlon Wayans recently told it, the family was not going to let anything come between them. They ultimately chose to stand in solidarity, even when that meant walking away from an incredibly lucrative gig.
Marlon Wayans continued: “I’m still a brother after this. No, I’m gonna support my brother. And we all left the show. And that’s why season five, it got weird. It got Biz Markie. God bless Chris Rock, [but] he came at the wrong time. As brilliant as he is, he couldn’t save it. Because the eyes of the show is gone.”
