‘DWTS’ Eric Roberts Reveals Show Wanted To Cast Him Years Ago
The official DWTS Season 33 cast list is officially out now. Among the eager competitors is actor Eric Roberts. He and twelve other celebrities will compete for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. Only one can win it all.
But what most DWTS viewers might not realize is that Eric Roberts almost joined the show during the first season. There have been many changes since then. Many pro dancers have come and gone. On top of that, the cast list expanded significantly.
So why didn’t Eric Roberts step into the ballroom in 2005? See what he had to say.
Eric Roberts Almost Joined DWTS In Season 1
Dancing With The Stars kicked off back in 2005. The first season featured just six celebrities, with Kelly Monaco and Alec Mazo taking home the Mirrorball Trophy. But according to Eric Roberts, he was supposed to be part of that premiere season.

“I was the first person they offered this show to 19 years ago,” the 68-year-old actor shared with Us Weekly. “And I was in China making a movie and [had] a one-day overlap, and the movie wouldn’t let me go. So, here I am.”
During that 19-year time gap, Roberts received two titanium hips. While that may put off some pro dancers, his partner Britt Stewart believes she can handle it.
“We’re going to get those titanium hips nice and juiced up and ready to move,” Britt added.
As for Eric Roberts’ famous family, no one knew about his decision to join Dancing With The Stars except for his wife.
“The only person who knows is my wife. They all found out on television today,” he shared. He is the brother of actress Julia Roberts and the father of actress Emma Roberts.
The Actor Trusts His Partner To Help Him In The Ballroom
Most competitors say they’re terrified of dancing when they join the show. And Eric Roberts is no different. Fortunately, he has a lot of faith in his pro partner, Britt.
“This is hard and I’m not a dancer. She is a dancer, and she has to talk from the ground up with me and I felt terrible,” Roberts continued in the interview. “But she makes me happy every day.”
“What he has done in his career is so impressive and is amazing,” Britt shared. “I am just grateful to have him as my partner and looking to bring him to light in the ballroom.”
