‘Today’ Hoda Kotb Spotlights Her ‘Privilege’ In A ‘Whole New’ World
Lately, the Today hosts, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie have been absent from the show. Although fans have missed seeing them, Hoda offers a big life update. Upon her return, she spotlighted her “privilege” in a “whole new” world she is experiencing.
Hoda Kotb Has A Deep Sense Of Gratitude
Undeniably, as Today host, Hoda Kotb enters her sixties, she isn’t taking anything for granted. Understandably, she has gone through major scares in her life and came back even stronger. Even more so, she is counting her blessings as she goes through a huge transition in her life with her daughters. While she is raising two beautiful daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, with her ex-fiance, Joel Schiffman, their lives have drastically changed in the past few weeks.
Hoda Kotb Spotlights Her ‘Privilege’ In A ‘Whole New’ World
During the September 4 episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna, Hoda Kotb discusses entering a new world. “Everything changed like that,” Hoda Kotb says as she snaps her fingers. “I have a whole new town and a whole new school and all the new things,” Hoda reflects on moving her daughters to the suburbs. She explains, “We went for our first day of school, I carried a coffee and I had sneakers [on], and I walked my kids to school like normal people.” Furthermore, she shows how excited she is to be in a new “norm” by saying, “It was awesome.” But one of her most cherished moments was walking her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5 to school. However, it doesn’t escape her that it is a true “privilege,” since many working parents don’t get the opportunity to indulge in such an honor.
Hoda Kotb Is Happy For Her Kids To See A Different Life
Although Hoda Kotb loves her job, she is prioritizing her kids and the fleeting moments of seeing them grow. While she has many things vying for her time and attention, she couldn’t pass up being present for her girls. She says, “I just thought, ‘You know what? Sometimes chapters change and you miss things.’ And I was like, ‘I’m gonna do it.’” Additionally, she loved seeing all the kids wandering in their safe, free environment, “It was, like, a train of 10, 12 kids walking to school in a neighborhood.” In many ways, Hoda feels more connected to her own childhood after moving to the suburbs.
She called her sister and expressed how wonderful it is for her kids to be soaking in the joys of running and playing in the yard. And the small joys of watching her girls hunt for acorns on their walk. While it is a huge adjustment, she isn’t sad to switch things up for the benefit of her girls. But she celebrates all the wonderful memories of seeing her daughters grow in their city home. However, she is embracing the opportunity for them to spread their wings in a new world.
Jenna Bush Hager Helps Her Appreciate The New Chapter
Jenna Bush Hager also sees the transitions that Hoda Kotb is facing. She comfortingly offers, “It’s interesting because think about how many times you’ve moved in your life.” Then, she adds, “Every time I moved in my life, and you moved in yours, it was like, all of a sudden, it was a huge adjustment. But the stories I tell about growing in my life come from those.” But Hoda will always cling to the memories made in their old home. She reminisces about her daughters, “I remember them trying to crawl up the stairs and I remember, now, how they race up and down.”
Further thinking about the overwhelming joy of bringing them home, “And I was thinking about the very first time we brought them home and carried them up those stairs in that car seat and placed them in a little thing and all the things that happened there.”
Bittersweet Decisions
Undoubtedly, a significant move like the one Hoda Kotb and her kids are going through comes with many bittersweet thoughts. Hoda recalls, “And I was looking through old videos of them, when they were so little, and it’s like you want to hold onto things and you want to let go. And when I saw these videos of them when they were kids, little babies, I can’t believe I have a 7 and a 5-year-old. And I can’t believe all those memories. … There were so many things that we have built there.” However, she rejoices in the fact that they will make many new memories in their suburban home and community.
What do you think about Hoda Kotb sharing how valuable and even “privileged” she feels for being present with her daughters? Do you get to enjoy these types of treasures?
