Two men were arrested and charged with the death of Matthew Perry. The two men included a doctor and a go-between. They allegedly sold the ketamine to the actor, and Perry’s own assistant helped administer it. This led to Perry’s accidental death as he was sitting in a hot tub at his home.

Now, police records indicate that these two men had conspired to “scam” Perry out of money for the drugs. Here is what we know.

Two Men Arrested In Matthew Perry Death Probe

Thanks to his high-profile status, the LAPD has worked hard to bring people to justice for his death. It is similar to the probes into the deaths of Michael Jackson and Mac Miller. In MJ’s case, a doctor was arrested and convicted of providing him with the drugs. In Miller’s case, it was drug dealers.

For Matthew Perry, it was a mixture of the two. Five people were arrested and charged with his death. Among these was Dr. Salvador Plasencia, an urgent care physician in Calabasas, California. It also included the “ketamine queen” of Los Angeles, Jasveen Sangha.

Sangha had reportedly been selling ketamine and other drugs for years, according to federal prosecutors (via NBC News). Reports indicated that she began supplying the drugs to Perry through Erik Fleming, who coordinated the sales through Perry’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa.

Plasencia repeatedly injected Perry with the drug himself and also instructed Iwamasa on how to do it, the indictment says. However, it gets worse from there.

Men Indicted For Matthew Perry’s Death Conspired To Scam Him

When Kenneth Iwamasa reached out to Dr. Salvador Plasencia about getting more ketamine to help Matthew Perry, the doctor reportedly decided he could make some money out of the deal. Based on a text message in the indictment, Plasencia contacted another doctor, Mark Chavez, of San Diego.

He allegedly wrote, “I wonder how much this moron will pay,” and Chavez responded, “Lets find out.” Plasencia also wrote in a text to Chavez that he had injected Perry with ketamine and said, “It was like a bad movie.”

The indictment reveals that from September until Perry’s death in late October, the doctors provided him with 20 vials of ketamine for $55,000 in cash. This was when Iwamasa reportedly contacted Jasveen Sangha for more ketamine to help Perry.

“Matthew Perry’s journey began with unscrupulous doctors who abused their position of trust because they saw him as a payday,” Drug Enforcement Administration chief Anne Millgram said.

Sangha, 41, and Plasencia, 42, were both arrested Thursday. After searching Sangha’s home, detectives and federal agents found around 79 vials of ketamine and more drugs. Iwamasa, Perry’s assistant, pleaded guilty on Aug. 7. Chavez, 54, agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy. Fleming, 54, the acquaintance who helped Perry get the ketamine, pleaded guilty on Aug. 8 to one count of conspiracy.
