‘Chicago P.D.’ Bringing In Familiar Face For New Role
There is a new cast member coming to Chicago P.D. and it might be a familiar face for many One Chicago fans. The new actor has appeared in both Chicago Fire Season 2 and Chicago Med Season 2, but it wasn’t as the character she is playing when she joins Chicago P.D. as a regular cast member.
Here is who is joining the cast and what you need to know about the character.
Toya Turner Joins Chicago P.D. Cast As New Regular
Toya Turner has joined Chicago P.D. as a new regular cast member. She will play a new officer named Kiana Cook. According to reports, she will replace the exiting Tracy Spiridakos, who left the series as Det. Hailey Upton after the Season 11 finale. Turner is a familiar face to some television fans, including appearances on the two other One Chicago shows.
Turner appeared in both Chicago Fire Season 2 and Chicago Med Season 2. However, she played different characters in those shows, and neither was named Kiana Cook. With that said, more fans might know her from her role on Warrior Nun, the popular supernatural Netflix series. She played Shotgun Mary, one of the nun warriors in that series.
On Chicago Fire, she played Peaches the Prostitute in Season 2, Episode 13, “Tonight’s the Night.” On Chicago Med, she appeared in the Season 2 premiere, “Soul Care,” as Jayna Miles. More recently, she had a recurring role in the last two seasons of New Amsterdam as Gabrielle and had a one-episode shot in Grey’s Anatomy as Grace Porter.
Who Is Kiana Cook On Chicago P.D.?
According to the casting news, Kiana Cook (who was originally called Yara Page in previous network releases), is a “patrol officer who loves the adrenaline of the job and its stakes and doesn’t blink in the face of chaos.”
Officer Cook will replace Det. Hailey Upton, was one of the main cast members for seven seasons on the series. Upton could return one day, as she left the show still alive, but for now it is time for other characters to step up.
“I love the idea that a lot of these characters are still out there and could come back to the show,” showrunner Gwen Sigan said (via TV Line). “They’re all in the world and so, maybe someday.”
As for Turner, she got her training at the British American Drama Academy (BADA) at Oxford University. On top of Warrior Nun and New Amsterdam, she also appeared on The Mick, Easy, and Empire.
She joins a cast that includes Jason Beghe as Sgt. Hank Voight, Marina Squerciati as Officer Kim Burgess, LaRoyce Hawkins as Officer Kevin Atwater, Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres, Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek, and Amy Morton as Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt.
