Olympics opening ceremony

The opening ceremony of the Paris Summer Olympics shocked many fans in the United States. The event had several moments that honored France and the history of the Olympics, which has its basis in Greek myths. However, there was one moment in the ceremony that shocked many fans.

Here is what was shown and what fans are saying about it.

Olympics Opening Ceremony Includes ‘Ménage à Trois’ Moment

The entire Olympics opening sequence was created to honor the host city of Paris, which is often known as the City of Love. The scene showed three people in colorful outfits running up a staircase together and entering a bedroom. They sat down, and the door closed.

This caused many fans to sit in shock at what they just witnessed. The post on X, which has since been deleted, had many people showing their appreciation while others showed disgust.

  • “Casual polyamory during the Olympics opening ceremony??? I’m here for it, not gonna lie”
  • “They literally just showed a ménage à trois in the Olympic opening ceremony and the NBC team had no idea how to react”
  • “Shout out to the Paris Olympics #OpeningCeremony for me having to explain to my children what a ménage à trois is”

There was even a joke by writer John Karalis, who posted that they were trying to come up with French words Americans know and settled on “Menage a trois?”

However, that wasn’t the end of the controversy surrounding the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

Viewers Didn’t Know How To React To Several Opening Ceremony Moments

Several moments confused many fans about the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. This included a scene many fans misunderstood as depicting The Last Supper from the bible and a scene with Marie Antoinette.

Many people thought a scene mocked The Last Supper. However, there was a problem. The scene was actually depicting Bacchanalia, something that took place around 200 BC, a couple of centuries before Jesus’s birth. It was also based on a sculpture created almost 200 years before Leonardo Da Vinci painted The Last Supper.

The other moment that confused viewers was the scene of Marie Antoinette holding her decapitated head in her hand in the exact location where she was imprisoned before her execution in the French Revolution. Many viewers who are unaware of history thought it was a Satanic reference rather than a historical one.

Finally, there were accusations of a visual of the Horseman of Death leading the countries. That scene actually depicted Sequana, the Goddess of the Seine River.
