Last November, Sleuthers were shocked when Cameron Mathison signed a deal with Great American Media, who is behind GAF. This meant that he was not going to be returning as Detective Mike Kingston on the Hannah Swensen Mysteries, formerly known as Murder She Baked. Although most fans love that Victor Webster has joined the long-running mystery series starring Alison Sweeny they may want to know why he left.

Here is why Cameron left Hallmark for Great American Family.

Why Did Cameron Mathison Leave Hallmark For Great American Family?

Why did Cameron Mathison leave Hallmark for Great American Family? He was an integral part of the long-running Hannah Swensen Mysteries. Speaking to US Magazine, He revealed that he saw no difference. He shared that he started with Hallmark. But, everyone at Great American were people he knew from Hallmark.

Then, he referenced the Hallmark Mystery that he left with this deal. “I love working there and [on] my Murder She Baked series with Allie Sweeney and everybody else. Those are my friends, and I love doing those movies, and they’re still going.”

No Mention Of Sleuther Fans Who Loved Mike And Hannah

One surprising part of Cameron Mathison’s recent interview discussing his move from Hallmark to Great American Family is that he didn’t seem to account for fans who loved the Murder She Baked series. From the beginning, the General Hospital alum portrayed Detective Mike Kingston, even when the series rebranded to Hannah Swensen.

However, it seems that Mathison is oblivious to Sleuthers. That is because he said, “I think a lot of the viewers are now watching both.” There was no mention of fans who loved Mike and Hannah together. He did not see any difference in his work with his present and former employee.

In the end, this was a business decision. He got a three-year deal from Great American Media.

Cameron Mathison’s Departure Did Not Lead To Hannah Swensen Cancelation

Unlike Candace Cameron Bure who left for GAF, or Jill Wagner who has not been back to work for Hallmark in years, Cameron Mathison’s departure did not result in the cancelation or rebranding of the Hannah Swensen Mysteries. When CCB signed a contract for GAF, that resulted in Aurora Teagarden ending. However, the network managed to do a prequel reboot.

As for Jill Wagner, she has not done anything for the network for the past three years. She has been making romcoms on Great American Family, including one with Cameron, as well as Lioness. Therefore, last year, the network made it official and canceled Mystery 101.

Viewers, what do you think of Cameron’s reason for leaving Hallmark?
