Jordin Sparks Shares Approach To Judging ‘American Idol’
Jordin Sparks is sharing her approach to judging American Idol. Fans may recall that she won the show’s sixth season in 2007 at just seventeen years old. So, if she were to come and judge the series, what would she be like? Keep reading for more details.
Jordin Sparks Shares Approach To Judging American Idol
The upcoming season of American Idol is already missing a judge to sit beside hitmakers Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. Katy Perry departed at the end of last season so she could focus on her music. Yet, she promised that she would be back but for now, there is a handful of contenders vying for her seat. One of them is former Idol winner Jordin Sparks. Now, when she was on the show, there were OG judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul. Paula was the mothering type, Randy was the buddy, and Simon was the straight shooter. No one got any coddling from him.
Despite all of that, there were a lot of success stories from the classic Idol including Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Fantasia Barrino, and Kelly Clarkson. Jordin is also one of them having had hits such as “No Air” and “Tattoo.” She also danced her way into America’s hearts on Season 31 of DWTS. Now that American Idol has revamped itself with new judges, is Jordin interested in resisting her roots and filling Katy’s spot? According to Daily Express US, she would definitely take on the gig if asked.
However, the former winner does not think she would be asked in the first place:
“I’m sure they have already picked somebody else by now, but I thought it would make sense.”
Jordin Sparks has a great history with the show so of course she would want to go back. There has been no formal announcement regarding Katy Perry’s replacement. So, why not pick Jordin who has the experience and is a bright light? The thirty-four-year-old had this to say:
“I’m someone who’s already done it, I’ve been there, I love the show obviously and I love mentoring people coming up in the industry as well. It would have been cool.”
As for the type of judge she would be, she knows she would never be “mean”:
“No! You can’t even ask that, you know I’m not going to be mean.”
Hoping To Come Back
Jordin Sparks let it be known, back in February 2024, that she wanted to be the new American Idol judge:
“Oh hi [Amertican Idol] —I hear a seat opened up at the judges’ table! I’m putting my name in the hat.”
Fans immediately were excited at the prospect of her joining the show from a different vantage point:
- Oh, Jordin would be so good! Especially since she went through the show so young, I think she’d really be able to mentor a wide range of contestants
- I don’t think her relevancy is completely out of the question
She did note that she would have to be honest or the contestants would get nowhere. However, she would be kind at the same time. So, it would be a balance. Time will tell who they choose but Jelly Roll, Meghan Trainor, and Miley Cyrus’ names have been thrown around. It will have to be a person who can balance out the judges who are already there and established.
