Shaquille O’Neal’s New Game Show ‘Cheats’ Player Out Of Win
Shaquille O’Neal is the host of a new game show, and things are not off to a good start. O’neal hosts Lucky 13 , and the way people win is by betting on themselves and their knowledge. However, on the first episode, the show got one of the answers wrong, costing the player his winnings.
Here is what happened and what fans had to say about it after the fact.
Lucky 13 Cheats Player Out Of Winnings With Wrong Answer
Shaquille O’Neal has a new game show he hosts called Lucky 13. On this show, a person answers questions, but the person has to guess how many answers they will get right to win a special bonus prize. The first episode had Barrett Chesley, a dentist from Chicago, as the contestant.
The rules are simple. There are 13 true or false questions. If a player can guess accurately how many questions they got correct, they win $1 million. If they don’t get it right, they win anywhere from $5,000 to $100,000. The first episode saw a player get his guess right, but the show counted him wrong because of a wrong answer on the board.
Barrett answered all 13 questions, but there was one he wasn’t sure of. The question was: “Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day.” Barrett said that he works with Mexican women who would kill him if he got it wrong, and he answered, “False.”
By the end, he had to guess how many he got right and wrong and he chose seven to nine, which would have won $25,000 (he would have had to have guessed only one number to get the grand prize). However, he lost when his totals did not fit in between those two numbers. There was one problem. The board said that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day.
It is not.
Fans Blast Lucky 13 For Wrong Answer
Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5 every year to celebrate Mexico’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. It is a minor holiday in Mexico, but in the United States, people celebrate it as a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage (via History.com).

Mexican Independence Day is September 16, four months later. This was when Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla summoned Mexico to take up arms and fight for Mexico’s independence from Spain (via Library of Congress). The board said that Cinco de Mayo was Mexico’s Independence Day, and it counted Barrett wrong.
Fans lashed out on Instagram:
- “Just to clarify, Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexico’s Independence. Its September 16th. I just want to make sure that’s the correct answer.”
- “came to say the same thing. He got robbed.”
- “JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE CONSIDER IT LIKE MEXICOS INDEPENDENCE DAY DOESNT MEAN IT IS! “
Even Barrett Chesley spoke up in the comments, saying, “It’s not Mexican Independence Day. Thanks for holding me down yall!”

The rules are that you need to get within the range you picked to win. Barrett got the last question right. The show said he got the last question right. That gave him ten correct answers. Since the range he picked was 7 to 9, he lost because he went over that range.
