How Return Of ‘Supernatural’ Season 16 Could Happen
Supernatural ended with 15 seasons. The way the show ended makes it pretty much impossible to bring it back. Plus, even if the showrunners found a way to undo Sam and Dean Winchester’s happy ending, is there even a villain any better than God, who they defeated in the final season?
However, despite that, some fans still want to see a 16th season of Supernatural. Here is what they are saying.
Fans Want Supernatural Season 16
There are many fans who hated the Supernatural finale. Part of the problem was that Dean Winchester died in a regular battle against a mostly faceless, no-name monster. However, this ending gave Dean a happy ending where he ended up in heaven, saw Bobby again, learned his parents were there, and finally got a peaceful end.
Then, Sam Winchester got his happy ending because he was able to stop fighting, fall in love, get married, and have a child of his own. That is all Sam ever wanted at the show’s start, and he got that. The original ending by creator Eric Kripke had Sam sacrifice himself and die in a pit of Hell to save the world.
Clearly, Season 15 had a happier ending, even with Dean’s early death. The ending, with both brothers together in Heaven was perfect. The problem is there are some fans who hated it.
Those fans want the ending undone and the Winchesters to be back on Earth, tortured to fight on once again.
How Could Supernatural Season 16 Happen?
There was a Screen Rant thread with fans debating whether a new Supernatural season should happen. The OP wrote that Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles said they would love to return for a limited series for more storyline. The OP also touched on Dean not getting a good death.
This comes from both Jared Padelicki and Jensen Ackles saying they wouldn’t mind a miniseries – either four episodes (Padelicki) or 10 (Ackles). Ackles said it could be like Supernatural meets True Detective with one last case. There is also an idea that it could happen before Sam’s death, where he brings his brother back to help and then loses him again, maybe in a more fitting manner.
People in the thread responded mostly favorably:
- “I think a full length movie is in order.”
- “Absolutely I think that would be a amazing idea… with everything that’s going on in the world and all the attention we really could use something that we just enjoy watching at home.”
- “They should 100% return!! I miss the two of them on screen together. Honestly, the world could use the Winchester brothers right now.”

My husband and I totally agree it should be brought back, but with a happier ending for both brothers. The first (original) ending could have been a dream.
