ABC’s Bachelor franchise has a lot of rules that the lead and contestants must follow. One of the most controversial is the show’s drink limit, which they implemented in 2017 after an incident on the Bachelor In Paradise spinoff.
Contestants also aren’t allowed to have their phones or books to read during downtime between filming. Hannah Godwin spilled more details on how the show prevents drama from happening when cameras aren’t filming.
Contestants are constantly trying to find quality time with the lead, which sometimes makes them take drastic action. Past contestants have done everything from sneak into hotel rooms to stealing the lead from another contestant mid-conversation.

Sean Lowe Spills How He Broke Bachelor Rule For Catherine
Sean Lowe doesn’t seem like a rule breaker, but he was when it came to Catherine Giudici. He spilled to PEOPLE magazine the lengths he went to to spend more time with his future wife. He told the outlet that he “begged” the producers for more time with Catherine when they were filming a one-on-one date on the show.
“When filming the show, they really do not allow the Bachelor to be around the contestants off camera because they don’t want anything happening that they’re not capturing,” he corroborated Hannah Godwin’s claim.
As viewers may know, the contestant and lead generally depart the date in separate vehicles with the cameras down. But Sean Lowe broke these rules for a few more minutes with Catherine.
“I was like, ‘Please let her ride back in the car with us. Please, please, please, we won’t do anything. We won’t give you any great content that you would miss on the show.'”
The plea worked. Sean and Catherine were able to ride in the car together but they weren’t allowed to talk, which Sean admitted was “awkward.” But looking back, he was “so happy” to be in the car with her, even if all they could do was hold hands in silence.
Sean Lowe went on to marry her and they just celebrated their tenth anniversary.
