Mama June: Family Crisis Shows Family’s Last Days With Anna

In the June 28 episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, viewers see Anna Cardwell’s condition take a turn for the worse. June can be seen calling her hospice nurse to come in and check her vital signs.

Once the hospice nurse comes in and takes Anna’s pulse and other vitals, she confirms that June’s daughter is “transitioning.” This means that she was approaching death and, typically, hospice recommends the family call people in to say their goodbyes at this point.

The nurse admitted that they could not give the family a timeframe. “We just never know how fast things are going to change,” the hospice nurse said.

“Anna’s had a few rough nights and last night was really rough. I mean, she was shallow breathing [and] we all slept in the living room. I can tell things are different, that is the reason why hospice is here,” Mama June told cameras in an emotional interview. “No matter how much you knew it was going to happen, it is still f***ing like, what?”

“When the hospice nurse says Anna’s transitioning, you know what that means. If you want to say goodbye or make your peace with Anna, this is the time to do it,” she continued. While June and the rest of the family knew that Anna’s death was inevitable, the WEtv star admitted that the news “still takes a minute to process.”

Soon after the hospice nurse left, the family started to call everyone in. Anna Cardwell’s husband Eldridge stayed by her side and cameras showed her daughters hugging her.

June Shannon Puts Aside Feelings To Be There For Anna

Although June and Pumpkin haven’t always seen eye to eye, Pumpkin admitted that “Mama has done right by Anna.” In the end, June Shannon did everything she could to give Anna what she wanted in her final days. She stayed closeby, called hospice in when it was needed, and made sure everyone got along.

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson flew in from Colorado to see Anna in her final days. Her father and grandmother also came to say their goodbyes. Mama June has been estranged from them for years but goes above and beyond to get along with everyone for Anna’s sake.

“Anna saying to me … that she was proud of me and stuff when I told her that I finished my first semester of college. It was crazy because I wanted Anna to be able to see me graduate college and now that’s not even going to happen,” Alana told the cameras, crying.

That night, Anna died in her home surrounded by her closest family and friends. Mama June broke the news in a video message, sharing that her daughter passed away “peacefully” and is “no longer suffering.”

In her own video, Alana Thompson opened up about what it was like to be there when her sister passed. “We were all just sitting there talking,” she said. “And she took her last breath. I really wish she could have seen me graduate but that’ll be okay because she’s watching over me.”

New episodes of Mama June: Family Crisis air on Fridays at 9 p.m. on WEtv.
