‘Multiple People’ May Be Charged In Matthew Perry’s Death
Law enforcement is preparing to close the investigation into the death of Matthew Perry, but they believe that “multiple people” should be charged. A number of things contributed to Perry’s death, but now the question is who will face charges? Here is what has been shared so far.
Matthew Perry Was Undergoing Ketamine Infusion Therapy
Matthew Perry died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54. His death was ruled to be accidental, however, the autopsy revealed he died from the acute effects of ketamine. Other contributing factors to the actor’s death included coronary artery disease, drowning, and the effects of buprenorphine. The report clarified that buprenorphine is typically used to help treat opioid use disorder.
After the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office closed its investigation into Perry’s death, the LA Police Department started its own investigation in May. The goal of the LAPD was to look into the circumstances of Matthew Perry’s overdose death.
It is known that Matthew Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy around the time of his death. That being said, it was known that his last infusion therapy was one week before his death. “The ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy, since ketamine’s half-life is 3 to 4 hours or less,” the medical examiner’s report stated.
At the time, an investigative source with the LAPD revealed that law enforcement officials were partnering with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the United States Postal Inspector to determine where the ketamine that ended the late star’s life came from. “The exact method of intake in Mr. Perry’s case is unknown,” the autopsy report stated.
Multiple People May Be Charged In The Star’s Death
A source in law enforcement spoke with People about the investigation surrounding the Friends star’s death. Police think that there is a potential to charge multiple individuals with Matthew Perry’s loss of life. Currently, the ball is in the United States Attorney’s Office’s court.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office will make the final decision about whether or not to press charges against anyone. When approached for comment, the Attorney’s Office did not have anything to say about the investigation or who might face charges on Tuesday, June 25. The DEA has also been reached out to for comment but has not yet responded to inquiries.
One year before the Friends star died, he spoke out about his struggle with addiction. In his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, he dove into the difficult realities of being an addict.
“I wanted to share when I was safe from going into the dark side again,” Matthew Perry said of his memoir. “I had to wait until I was pretty safely sober—and away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction—to write it all down. I was pretty certain that it would help people if I did.”
