Adventurer and biologist Jeremy Wade took viewers along for a wild ride on the show River Monsters. Every episode showed him uncovering something crazy wading beneath the water’s surface in rivers all around the world. After taking viewers around the globe for nine seasons, many fans are wondering why River Monsters went off the air. Continue reading to find out what led to the end of the series and what Jeremy Wade is doing now.

River Monsters Came To An End For An Amazing Reason

It seemed like even his last name, Wade, led him to do what he loved for a living: fishing and catching water monsters. The British-born television show host wasn’t always hands-on with his work though. Prior to appearing on River Monsters, Wade had a much different career.

He studied zoology in college and then went on to teach biology at a public school before he started traveling around the world. Jeremy Wade’s background led him to have a lot of respect for the wildlife he encountered on the show.

Unfortunately for fans, River Monsters ended in 2017 after nine seasons. Long-time viewers were gutted by the news. However, hearing the reason why the show wasn’t renewed is almost heartwarming. To put it simply, Jeremy Wade had checked everything off his bucket list. There were no more monsters to catch or discover.

Around the time the show ended, Jeremy Wade spoke in a press release. The River Monsters host said, “Some shows can run forever, but our subject matter is finite. Ten years ago, I had a list in my head, which seemed impossibly ambitious at the time,” explained Jeremy after the end of the show was announced. “Everything has been ticked off.”

Where Is Jeremy Wade Now?

He accomplished something amazing, but fans can’t help but wonder what Jeremy Wade is up to now. Of course, he couldn’t stay away from wildlife. After all, it is his passion.

Since the end of River Monsters, Wade has returned to TV several times. He has filmed specials and new shows, being featured on Mighty Rivers to Dark Waters and Mysteries of the Deep. Time after time, he continued to explore places where very few other men had gone before him, and viewers loved to watch it.

On top of continuing to appear on television from time to time, Jeremy Wade has not lost his love for conservation. In an interview a few years ago, Wade talked about how important it is to preserve fresh bodies of water. Generally speaking, he said, the lack of interest in preserving these areas is typically due to a lack of interest in the animals living there.

“It’s true that a lot of freshwater fish aren’t all that exciting visually, but in fact there are some incredible looking fish out there in rivers and lakes, even if we don’t often get to see them,” he said.

So, while River Monsters is over, Jeremy Wade’s adventurous spirit lives on. That’s great news for fans.
