‘The View’ Whoopi Goldberg Stops To Break Up Fight In Audience
The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg had to pause the live show to break up a confrontation between two audience members on Tuesday. Initially, what seemed like her calling out a member of the crowd for having their phone out wound up leading to a fight in the studio. Continue reading for more details on the incident.
Fight In The Audience Unfolds Over Man Recording
In the middle of Tuesday’s show, Whoopi Goldberg stopped a conversation between Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin. She then got up and walked to the edge of the stage, almost out of view of the cameras.
It was initially reported that Whoopi got up to stop an audience member from recording the show on their phone. However, it seems like there was something more serious going on.
Brian Wilson was a member of the audience on The View Tuesday and opened up about what actually went down. Wilson told Entertainment Weekly that the altercation between three audience members went on for about six minutes before the moderator got up from the Hot Topics table to put an end to it.
According to Wilson, there was a man who looked to be in his mid-60s filming The View cast on his phone. Not only is having your phone out against the rules in the studio, but the man was bothering other people around him. A woman sitting in front of him was irritated because the man “had his camera out, and he was putting the camera over her head to get to view.”
Eventually, the interaction began to get more serious. The New York resident said things got more tense. “I can see hand gestures out of the corner of my eye,” Wilson said. “I could hear some noise on my right side, it started to become a little distracting.”
Whoopi Goldberg Puts An End To The Tussle
At one point, he said he heard the woman ask the man to stop and for him to move. It got to the point that she threatened to get the attention of security.
“She’s basically saying ‘Stop! Stop filming! Stop doing that! He aggressively nudges her hand away and was like, ‘No.’ He was not having,” Wilson said. “That’s when I was like, ‘Oh, this is bad.'”
This is when Whoopi Goldberg got up from the table with the rest of The View panelists and put an end to the altercation. She asked the man politely to stop recording and put away his phone. Members of the audience clapped in support of Whoopi’s decision.
To his surprise, Brian Wilson said the man was not asked to leave at any point. But being reprimanded by Whoopi Goldberg in front of a live audience was probably enough embarrassment. See a clip of the tense moment below.
