Fans Livid At ‘Jeopardy!’ Schedule Change: What Happened?

In some parts of the country, Jeopardy! fans were left without an episode. What happened to the schedule?

There is nothing worse than one of fans’ favorite TV shows being pre-empted. Usually, there is some sort of warning for the schedule change. This can happen on the day, but most of the time, fans know the change is happening ahead of time. That was not the case for Jeopardy! fans recently, and it was not the first time for something like this to happen.

When Didn’t Jeopardy! Air a New Episode?

The Friday, Nov. 24 episode did not air in all parts of the country. New York was mostly affected, although fans in Michigan and Nebraska also reported that the episode did not air as planned. Naturally, fans took to social media to find out why they would have to skip an episode, especially when there was a rerun of the series on at 2 a.m. ET/PT on Saturday, Nov. 25. Would it not have made sense to air the Friday night episode instead of a rerun of the Thursday episode?

Fans took to Reddit to air their frustrations with the lack of episode and decision to just skip over it:

  • “While I understand that sometimes Jeopardy can be pre-empted due to live events, especially on holiday weekends such as this, what doesn’t make sense is that at 2:05am-2:35am (Sat morning) they are re-playing the episode from Thursday 11/23. Why not air the Friday episode that we are missing so we can DVR it? Is there any logical explanation to this?”
  • “I’m looking through my guide and I don’t see Jeopardy airing tonight, tomorrow, or Sunday. Any idea when today’s episode will be airing?”

The decision by ABC came straight after one of the easiest final questions of the series, according to The Sun. All three contestants got the answer right. The final clue was “This company announced ‘On September 29th, 2023, we will send out the last red envelope.” Of course, the answer was “What Is Netflix?” which the majority of viewers figured out. The red enveloped linked to the DVDs that Netflix used to mail out before it became a streaming platform.

Why Didn’t a New Episode of Jeopardy Air?

Why was this episode of Jeopardy! pre-empted? And why only in certain parts of the country? It was an annoying reason for a lot of fans. Blame college football.

What made more fans angry was that the episode would not air at all. Those who DVR their episodes found out that they skipped from Episode 54 to Episode 56.

  • “We’re not getting it at all in NYC market. My DVR goes straight from episode 54 to episode 56. I also hate when sports disrupt our Jeopardy…”

Some fans attempted to help viewers find a way to watch the episode. One included a YouTube link to that episode, but it was swiftly taken down due to copyright. Another fan shared an idea that could help if fans could get a broadcast from a different location.

  • “If you are lucky enough to get the ABC feed out of Philly, it is on overnight. I live in an area that gets both the NYC and PHL feed so I luck out.”
