‘Home Town’ Ben Napier Opens Up About His 100-Lb Weight Loss
The star of HGTV’s Southern-inspired home makeover show reveals the secret to his impressive weight loss and the reason behind it.
Ben Napier is no stranger when it comes to makeover projects that take time and dedication. The Mississippi native is well-versed in seeing things through from start to finish. Alongside his wife, Erin Napier, the couple have climbed the ranks as two of HGTV’s most in-demand stars. Home Town was recently renewed for an 8th season ahead of its Season 7 premiere in January. Fans have taken a liking to the renovation show with a charming Southern flair.
But Ben’s most successful and meaningful makeover of his life had nothing to do with homes. At the start of 2023, Ben decided that it was time to work on himself. He began a weight loss journey that has completely changed his outlook for the future.
The Logic Behind Ben Napier’s Weight Loss
For Ben, his reasoning for a weight loss plan started as a two-pronged approach. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ben candidly revealed his motivations for getting healthier. “We’re all trying to be healthier and trying to live better and trying to live longer,” Ben told Entertainment Tonight. “I needed to take some weight off. And then we did an interview. And my shirt wouldn’t stay buttoned and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a bad look. That is a bad thing.’ I was already working [on my weight] and then that jumpstarted it.”
One of Ben’s biggest wake-up calls regarding his weight was during a doctor’s appointment. The HGTV star was preparing for shoulder surgery when his doctor noticed Ben’s elevated blood pressure. He was then advised to start on a blood pressure medication. “I was like, ‘I’m too young.’ At the time I wasn’t even 40,” Ben said. “So I said, ‘Let me see if we can drop it by losing weight.'”

After shedding nearly 100 pounds in a year, Ben says that his blood pressure is now where it should be. And that’s something that Erin takes a great interest in. “His blood pressure is perfect! It is the sexiest thing,” she said.
As for his secret behind the weight loss, Ben attributes the success to his restricted diet. A diet inspired by none other than his own wife. “I only eat ‘girl dinner,’ which is basically crackers for two meals a day. I just crave crackers and maybe a little cheese, charcuterie, a little fruit, maybe a crunchy carrot. Ben just basically adopted eating the way I was eating,” Erin said. “He has one big meal. He eats a good, healthy, big lunch. Last night for supper he ate some dates. He’s obsessed with dates!”
Enjoying The Benefits Of Fame
The Napiers say that they’ve come a long way since the beginning of their ascension to HGTV royalty. Around the taping of the first season of Home Town, the Napiers were able to meet country music star Chris Stapleton and his wife, Morgane. “We met their family and became friends right at the beginning of this,” Ben said. “It was impeccable timing for us because we had never been in front of the camera or out in the public eye. We learned a lot from them.”
For Erin, being able to learn from the Stapletons was exactly what they needed in order to thrive. “They keep their family first before anything else. Sometimes when I think, ‘I don’t know how to handle this.’ I think, ‘I know what Chris and Morgane would do. I know how they would handle it,'” Erin said. “Having people who are so many steps ahead of you in the public spotlight when you don’t know how to handle a certain situation or what to do, they’ve been there. It’s so nice.”

Ben and Erin Napier haven’t been in the public eye for that long, but they yearn to make the most of their show’s success. Erin says that creating a family legacy is the most important thing about Home Town. “My very favorite thing about what we’ve gotten to do over the last seven years is that our girls will always have this,” Erin said. “Someday we won’t be here, but they’ll have this. They’ll get to be with us, and hear us, and learn our story and why we love this town so much. They’ll have that and I feel so lucky that they’ll have that.”

Ignore all the ugly comments. The old adage “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all” should apply to ALL comments. These rude people don’t walk in your shoes. Your show is a breath of fresh air & so are both of you. Don’t read the negativity as it is like a poison.
