Kailyn Lowry Explains Why She Lied About Gender Reveal

Kailyn Lowry, formerly seen on Teen Mom, is finally offering up an explanation of what went wrong with her gender reveals. In true “Kail-esque” fashion, the podcast host posted three separate reveals, and they didn’t line up at all. Get ready for an emotional roller-coaster!

Gender Reveal #1

In the first part of Lowry’s gender reveal, she is seen on the phone with her boyfriend, Elijah Scott, letting him know the e-mail containing the twins’ gender had arrived. She then let him know that she could not wait to open it, and had to know now.

As soon as she opened the e-mail, her eyes bulged and her mouth dropped. Pure shock glaring off of her face. “They’re boys,” she says.

Being the mother of five boys already (Isaac, 13, Lincoln, 10, Lux, 6, Creed, 3, and Rio, soon to be 1), it’s definitely bittersweet. However, the story doesn’t end here.

Gender Reveal #2 for Kail

During an episode of Lowry’s podcast Barely Famous, she talks about how she has always wanted a gender reveal, and just never did one with any prior pregnancies. With this pregnancy being twins, she felt it was the perfect time to go all out.

Following the blood test results reveal that she shared with her boyfriend, Elijah, she chose to do a full reveal for her boys. She definitely went all out, with a giant “TWINS” display surrounded by pink and blue balloons. Lowry, her boyfriend, and her older boys were all standing on the sides of the enormous display as smoke cannons were set off behind them. Kail said, “I should’ve known then it was foreshadowing the future chaos.” After the smoke cannon failed, the mom of 7 broke the news to the older kids that BOTH babies were boys. Their disappointment was apparent.

Lowry Gender Reveal #3

Now, this is where things get interesting. Most fans are pretty convinced by this point that Kail only makes boys. She had a huge surprise for EVERYONE when she finally released the third part of the twin gender reveal.

This reveal featured Lincoln, Lux, and Creed standing in their yard with a soccer goal and two small soccer balls. Lincoln kicked the first ball to reveal blue powder – confirmation of a boy twin. Creed, nicknamed “Biggie” took a turn kicking a ball into the goal. Lastly, Lux kicks the second reveal ball, and to everyone’s amazement, pink powder flies out. Finally a girl for the Lowrys!

Explanation from Kail

Many fans were left confused by the multi-part gender reveal. Several made comments like:

“I thought they were both boys”

“What happened?”

“Wait what? I thought you already revealed it’s 2 boys!”

Kail finally took to TikTok this morning to explain and clear up the confusion. Initially, around 8-10 weeks Lowry did a blood test. They told her that if the babies were boys then it would pick up the XY chromosomes and if they were girls it would pick up XX chromosomes. She assumed that the test picking up any XY chromosomes meant that both babies would be boys. So, when she got the email with the blood results stating “boy”, she thought it applied to both babies.

Later on, she found out that with fraternal twins, an XY or boy result could potentially apply to only one baby. With high hopes, she decided to go for an ultrasound scan between 13-15 weeks for confirmation. This is still fairly early for a gender scan, so the ultrasound technician said that she couldn’t 100% confirm, but she was pretty sure that one baby was a girl. In the end, Lowry did get a confirmation at her 20-week anatomy ultrasound that she was going to have a little girl at long last.
