My 600-lb Life alum Irene Walker faced multiple challenges during her journey with Dr. Now. She appeared on the show at 603 pounds and was struggling with her daily life. The Texas native spent most of her days eating at her son’s place. However, the majority of her weight gain began when she was a child. Aside from food, Irene struggled with alcohol as a way to cope with stress. Her condition got even worse when she began using drugs. The My 600-lb Life alum also became homeless at one point in her life and got kicked out of a women’s center while pregnant. A couple of her family members also passed away in recent years, making her life more miserable. It’s clear to see that Irene went through a lot, making it harder to control her weight. But her kids never left her. They also played a significant role in her motivation to change her life.
Irene’s Weight Loss Journey
Dr. Now told Irene that she only needed to lose 60 lbs to qualify for bariatric surgery. She only dropped 5 pounds early in her program. She was given a second chance, but only shed over 10 pounds. Fortunately, the former My 600-lb Life star was able to push through in her third attempt and got herself approved for the operation. She also became more conscious of her diet.
Her family also supported her physical goals, especially when it came to her workout routines. Irene Walker’s last reported weight was 535 lbs. She has yet to share her current weight. But many of her recent social media photos indicate that she was able to maintain a healthy after her episode.
My 600-lb Life: Irene Walker Faces Backlash After Big Scandal
Irene faced some controversy after her episode in Season 9. She lied to her fans, claiming that she was living happily in a relationship in 2021. Many were glad that she found a new partner in life after suffering from an abusive relationship when she was younger, which ultimately led her to become a single mother at the age of 17. However, the My 600-lb Life alum later revealed that her relationship was a lie and she was just messing with her followers online.
Many were upset about what she did. But Irene Walker made it clear that she’s been focusing more on herself during that time. She also added that she’s been putting a lot of effort into regaining custody of her kids, who were taken away by Child Protective Services.
