The Today Host Is Getting Tested For Cancer

On TodayAl Roker opened up about getting genetically tested for cancer. On the show, Jill Martin got real about her own personal journey with cancer. This inspired Al to take action.

The weatherman said, “After you [Jill Martin] were last here and we talked, and Dr. Port said, given my family’s history of breast cancer and such, I’m getting genetically tested. I’m waiting for the results now.”

By sharing about this on the show, he may have inspired others to look into genetic testing as well. According to Cancer.netGenetic testing helps estimate your chance of developing cancer in your lifetime. It does this by searching for specific changes in your genes, chromosomes, or proteins. These changes are called mutations.”

So, by undergoing this testing, Al can learn more about his personal risk of developing breast cancer. The same is true for other types of cancer. Because he will be aware of his chances, more frequent testing may be helpful. This may help him to catch it sooner and have a higher success rate with treatment.

Since Al has always been open with viewers about his health, he may share an update once he learns the results of his genetic testing. Hopefully, all goes well and he gets some useful information to be proactive about his health moving forward. Of course, Today fans are showering him with love, support, and prayers.
