Some Of The Best Reactions To The Golden Bachelor
To say the anticipation was high ahead of The Golden Bachelor premiere is putting it mildly. ABC heavily promoted the show, including food trucks in L.A. and NYC. However, true Bachelor Nation fans have been waiting three years for the long-promised spin-off.
ABC first teased the idea of a senior citizen version of The Bachelor with a casting advertisement airing during Matt James’ season of the show. However, plans were put on hold during the coronavirus pandemic. Luckily, fan interest prompted the network to revive the idea in 2023.

Indiana native Gerry Turner – a widower with two adult daughters – was chosen as the first Golden Bachelor. The show chose 22 women as hopefuls for his second chance at love. It finally premiered on Thursday, Sept. 28, and the reaction from fans was astounding.
Many lapsed Bachelor Nation fans tuned in to the spin-off. “I haven’t watched The Bachelor or The Bachelorette in years, but you best BELIEVE I will be watching…How precious is this,” one fan gushed on Twitter.
There were many other tweets from first-timers who had never watched the show before.

Fans Demand More
Thursdays this fall belong to The Bachelor. After The Golden Bachelor, Season 9 of Bachelor In Paradise premiered. BIP will run for two hours, while The Golden Bachelor is just one hour.
And fans were not happy about this. Several fans of the show tweeted their demand to reverse it and make BIP one hour and give the extra hour to Gerry Turner and his love interests.
It’s unlikely ABC will listen, but The Golden Bachelor was initially scheduled to start at 10 PM Eastern, but fan uproar made the network change it to 8 PM Eastern.
Did Bachelor Nation Fans Accept Gerry Turner’s Golden Rose?
Social media activity doesn’t necessarily translate to ratings. Other Bachelor Nation shows are likely to get renewals every year, but if ratings are bad for The Golden Bachelor, it will likely be a one-and-done season.
Are enough Bachelor Nation fans tuning in to secure a Season 2? ABC has yet to lock the show in for another season, but the ratings were strong.
The premiere episode garnered more than 4 million viewers. Deadline reports that it was the highest-rated season premiere within the franchise since the season premiere of The Bachelor in 2021, which was Matt James’ season.
With such a strong opening, it’s entirely possible ABC will renew The Golden Bachelor for Season 2. What did you think of the premiere episode? Do you accept Gerry Turner’s Golden Rose? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
