Al Roker’s health issues haven’t knocked him down.

As viewers know, Al has faced several ups and downs with his health over the years. Most recently, he underwent knee replacement surgery. After taking some time off to recover, he returned to the talk show and is better than ever before. As he ages, he may continue to face more and more health issues, but none of these things are forcing him to retire.

Is Al Roker ready to retire from Today?

On Thursday, Al and his colleagues talked about his upcoming birthday. On Sunday, August 20, he will turn 69 years old. He has an exciting weekend ahead, celebrating his special day. It’s bittersweet, however, as his son heads back to college.

As the Today crew chatted about Al’s big day, they also brought up the topic of retirement. It was very lighthearted and fun. After Al informed his co-hosts that he’ll be 69, Craig Melvin said, “I mean, that’s practically 70! You’re practically 75!”

This prompted laughter from the whole table. In response to Craig, Al teased, “Well, here I am, I’m on a Smucker’s jar!”

Dylan Dreyer added that Al is “way past retirement age.” Al said to Dylan: “You wish!”

Then, Today host Craig responded to Dylan about her potential retirement too. He said, “That train’s never late! Never late! 69 could be your year though. It could be the year that you retire! Probably not.”

Dylan seemed doubtful that she would retire at 69, and Al replied, “What’s wrong with you?”

As fans can see, this wasn’t a serious conversation about Al’s retirement plans. So, there are no details about his next chapter.

It’s unclear when Al will eventually step away from the talk show. His loyal fans and colleagues will certainly be sad to see him go, but he’s had a wonderful run and deserves to relax. For now, he’s still kicking and is still a fan favorite on the show.

So, do you see Al Roker retiring any time soon? Are you glad he’s still a part of Today, even as he nears the age of 69? Sound off in the comments section below, and come back to TV Shows Ace for more news about your favorite talk show hosts.
