‘Today’ Al Roker Gets Petty With NBC Colleague On Air
While on the air this week, Today Show host Al Roker got a little bit petty with an NBC colleague.
Al is known for his sarcastic humor while on air, but things took a turn this week. An NBC colleague joined Al and two of the show’s hosts for a segment. And Al made things a little awkward. Read on to find out what he said, and who he got petty with.
Al Shares Grim News With Viewers
Of course, it wasn’t all fun and games and petty jokes this week in the studio. Meteorologist Al Roker gave viewers some grim news amid a segment about the summer’s unrelenting heat.
Earlier this week, Al was in the studio talking to his co-hosts about the heat wave that is gripping the United States and much of the Northern Hemisphere. Correspondent Maggie Vespa checked in from Minneapolis to talk about the heat on the ground in the Twin Cities. She pointed out that July days have been breaking records left and right for high temps, and the entire month was likely to break records as a whole.
Al then added his expertise and offered no good news for sweaty and worried viewers. The heat dome squatting over the United States isn’t going anywhere, any time soon. The popular meteorologist pointed out that humidity has been pushing the already-high heat into indices well in the triple digits, and people should be careful going outside.
That advice still stands as the week’s heat drags on. But Al moved on to less serious and far more petty things on Wednesday.
Today‘s Al Roker Gets Petty With NBC Colleague On Air
NBC sportscaster Mike Tirico connected with the Today Show hosts as Al Roker, Craig Melvin, and Savannah Sellers hosted a segment.
Mike was calling in from Paris, France, as they talked about the show’s Countdown to Paris 2024 bit. For the segment, Mike was sharing details about the Summer Olympics which will take place in Paris in 2024. Mike shared excitedly that he’s had lunch with the Mayor of Paris, and the head of the International Olympics Committee. He mentioned the dinner as part of a bigger point about the growing hype surrounding the upcoming Olympics.
Al, however, decided that Mike was bagging and called his colleague out. Al jokingly said that Mike was name-dropping the bigwigs. He then playfully imitated Mike talking about his experiences in Paris, saying, “Oh, look at me I’m Mike Tirico ooh Lala.” Al started laughing, but the sportscaster wasn’t taking it lying down. Mike clapped back at him, “I’m just a reporter, sharing facts with my friends in the morning.” Al kept laughing, but Mike seemed to take the win from that exchange.
Who do you think won the exchange between Al Roker and Mike Tirico? And are you excited about the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris, France? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. And catch the whole The Today Show crew on weekdays on NBC at 7 AM EST.

Al never was anything great! He made fun of viewers when they did not prepare as he stated they should when he warned of a snow storm. Was very childish. He left out all the times he was wrong about his weather predictions and warnings! What a clown!
I agree 110% with Robert Gregg’s comment, above !!
I think Al has worn out his time at the Today Show. I know back in the days he was more charismatic and funny but his time has come to an end. When I watched this morning’s show it was refreshing; I have always loved to see Peter on air. This morning’s episode was refreshing & light-hearted. It was a pleasure to watch it and not have to wait for Al’s commentary on anything. Mike Torino should have said something to Al at that moment on air. I would have! Mike has more class & spunk! I can’t wait to watch the Olympics. I love his stories that the athletes talk about & what sacrifices they had to achieve their dreams and go to the Olympics! Go tem #USA!!!
I believe Al Roker was attempting to poke fun, but as usual, his sarcastic nature went into high gear,
making it a sad display on his part….luckily, Mike Tirico remained professional & responded well.
