Disney’s ‘Mulan’ Coco Lee Dead At 48
Tragic news for fans of Disney’s Mulan as Hong Kong native singer and songwriter Coco Lee, who voiced the role of Fa Mulan in the Mandarin version of the film, has been confirmed dead at the age of 48. What has been revealed about her death?

Coco Lee’s sisters, Nancy and Carol, took to Instagram this morning to reveal their sister had passed away. In a very long statement, the sisters revealed that CoCo had lost her battle with depression. Tragically, the voice of Disney’s Fa Mulan attempted to commit suicide in her home on Sunday, July 2nd.
Coco Lee was rushed to a nearby hospital where the medical staff attempted to treat her failed suicide attempt. Sadly, however, her sisters report she passed away today at the hospital.

Her sisters penned in a tragic statement: “With great sadness, we are here break the most devastating news: CoCo had been suffering from depression for a few years but her condition deteriorated drastically over the last few months. Although CoCo sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her..”
The statement continued as they praised their sister for her incredible career:
2023 marks the 30th anniversary of CoCo’s singing career, in the past 29 years, she’s won countless international acclaims with top selling songs and has left audience w an astounding impression of her excellent live performances.”

She Had An Incredible Career
At just 48 years old, Coco Lee had many successes on her resume. Born in Hong Kong, she moved to San Francisco with her mother when she was just eight with her two sisters. After high school, she did pursue college at the University of California until her pop singer career took off and she flew to the top of the Cantonese and Mandarin pop music markets.

Some of her well-known English performances included “A Love Before Time” for the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon movie, and “Before I Fall In Love” for the Runaway Bride soundtrack. CoCo Lee actually performed “A Love Before Time” during the Academy Awards in 2001.

As mentioned previously, CoCo was also the voice of Mulan in the Mandarin version of Disney’s Mulan.
