It’s been a little over six months since the tragic news broke confirming Eight Is Enough star Adam Rich was dead at the age of 54. At the time, his cause of death was not made part of the original report. Though, it was speculated to be connected to his history of drug abuse.

In the past 24 hours, however, TMZ obtained official death records confirming how the actor died. So, what was Adam Rich’s cause of death? Keep reading for the details.

Eight Is Enough: Adam Rich Dead At 54: Cause Of Death

Tragically, TMZ confirms Adam Rich has joined the growing list of individuals with a cause of death linked to accidental overdose. More specifically, Adam Rich reportedly accidentally overdosed on fentanyl. Per his death records, the young actor had a cocktail of other things in his system at the time including alcohol and lorazepam (the generic form of Ativan).

It was back in January of this year when news of Adam Rich’s death originally broke. The actor was reportedly discovered dead inside his home in L.A. Police did not suspect there was any foul play involved in his passing. Sadly, it has now been confirmed his body was discovered in a “mild decomposition” state.

Police officers speculated Adam Rich’s cause of death was likely related to an overdose. Initially, it was the manager of the actor’s apartment that discovered his body inside his bathroom. A white substance (believed to be some sort of drug) was found near his body.

Law enforcement later told us, his death was likely the result of an overdose … adding the manager at Adam’s apartment building found his lifeless body inside the bathroom and there was also a white powder substance, believed to be drugs.

He Had History With Drug Abuse

Sadly, his cause of death being linked to overdose didn’t come as a total shock as he had a pretty nasty history with narcotics. For the past few years, he had been struggling with his addiction. This included being arrested for reportedly trying to steal pills. Given his history with drugs, investigators were comfortable speculating his cause of death potentially being an overdose before it was actually confirmed.
