Shirley Ballas Might Leave ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ — Why?
Shirley Ballas has been the head judge on Strictly Come Dancing since Len Goodman opted to retire back in 2017. But is it possible that she’s ready to put the ballroom behind her once and for all?
Some sources indicate that Shirley Ballas may not return for another season of Strictly. What exactly went wrong?
Shirley Ballas dealt with an enormous amount of stress last season
After Len Goodman announced his retirement at the end of DWTS Season 31, rumors immediately started circling about his replacement. Several sources thought Shirley Ballas would be the perfect choice for his replacement.
However, the ballroom dance legend later admitted that she didn’t think that would be happening. And now, it seems like she may not move forward with Strictly Come Dancing either.
What exactly happened?
Fans often disagree with judges on competition shows. It happens in every fandom. But Shirley Ballas reports that the verbal abuse she received after the last season of Strictly was completely uncalled for.
“Last year I was struggling. It wasn’t just a little bit, it was a lot – the majority of it was in silence. When it all kicked off, it seemed like it was larger than anything else,” the head Strictly judge confessed to Mirror. “I was crying, I was emotional, but I was embarrassed about being so emotional. I didn’t want to talk to anybody about it.
Shirley Ballas went on to say that last season was her “all-time low” since she joined the show in 2017. However, she admits that the BBC team was always checking in on her and offered whatever support they could.
Contract negotiations are reportedly in negotiation right now. After all the online hate Shirley Ballas received last year, she isn’t entirely sure that she wants to return.
However, her fans sincerely hope that she will come back for another season.
The ballroom superstar may follow in her son’s footsteps
Although Mark Ballas had a wildly successful career on Dancing With The Stars, he recently confirmed that he was officially retiring from the show. He will always love the world of ballroom dance but wanted to leave on a high note after his Season 31 win with Charli D’Amelio.
“I just want to finish this by saying I’ve done 20 seasons now. I was 21, 22 and honestly, being able to dance and perform for you fans, you guys are the best fans. Thank you,” Mark shared during the final performance of the DWTS 2023 tour. “So I just want to finish by saying, this will be the last time you’ll see me dance in this capacity. I’m coming to a close tonight. It’s going to be my last dance.”
Fans would definitely miss seeing Mark and Shirley Ballas on their respective shows but understand they ultimately have to do what’s best for themselves.
