‘Umbrella Academy’s’ Final Season To Have Fewer Episodes
Netflix renewed The Umbrella Academy for a fourth and final season, but it will be shorter than the first three. The rumors of the shorter season broke on Twitter and showrunner Steve Blackman confirmed it, but with a caveat.
Here is what fans can expect from The Umbrella Academy Season 4 and what Blackman said.
The Umbrella Academy will have fewer episodes
Someone posted on Twitter that they heard rumors the final season of The Umbrella Academy would check in at only six episodes. Showrunner Steve Blackman then confirmed the rumor’s accuracy. However, on top of saying it would only be six episodes, Blackman also said, “Six amazing episodes!”
Blackman previously revealed the new season’s premiere was titled, “The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want” and said the production was starting for the final season. That was at the start of November. The good news is that Blackman said that the show was always meant to last four seasons. One hopes that six episodes will be all Blackman needs to wrap things up with a satisfactory ending.
Blackman has high aspirations for the final season, which is good since the Netflix series has moved past the stories told in the comics. “We’ve got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes,” Blackman said. He also said the last season was already written by August, so six episodes were likely always the plan.
What will happen in the final season of The Umbrella Academy?
The third season of The Umbrella Academy saw the Hargreeves siblings end up in a parallel timeline where they never became heroes and a group called The Sparrow Academy existed in their place. However, just like the first two seasons, things ended with an apocalypse. Surely, the Hargreeves will stop the apocalypse this time.
Based on the comics by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy is about a group of kids born with superpowers adopted by a man named Sir Reginald Hargreeves. He raises them to be heroes, but mistreats them along the way, causing all the kids to become adults with serious emotional problems.
Season 1 saw Vanya use her hidden powers to destroy the world. The siblings ended up thrown into the past, around the time of the JFK assassination, and once again accidentally cause the apocalypse, this time through nuclear war. In Season 3, they arrive in an alternate timeline and once again can’t stop the timeline from resetting once again. At the end of Season 3, the siblings all went their separate ways.
Season 4 includes Elliot Page as Viktor, Aidan Gallagher as Five, Tom Hopper as Luther, Justin H. Min as Ben, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, David Castañeda as Diego, Ritu Arya as Lila Pitts, and Colm Feore as Reginald Hargreeves.
