‘Great Balls Of Fire’ Singer Jerry Lee Lewis Dead At 87
Tragic news for music lovers as Jerry Lee Lewis was confirmed dead at the age of 87. Recognized as a pillar in the rock n’ roll industry, the singer made his way to the hall of fame in several different music genres. As those who have been following the headlines this week know, Jerry Lee Lewis was reported dead earlier this week. His publicist issued a statement that he was alive after the death news broke and the report of his death was later retracted.
According to The Rolling Stones, Jerry Lee Lewis’s publicist confirmed today that the singer has passed away. While fans know he was 87 at the time of his passing, his cause of death has not immediately been made available to the public.

Prior to his passing Jerry Lee Lewis was known for a lot of incredible songs including “Whole Lot of Shakin’ Going On,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Breathless” and “High School Confidential.” Both “Great Balls of Fire” and “Whole Lot of Skakin’ Going On” made it into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Just this year, Jerry Lee Lewis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. This was a huge accomplishment for the singer as it made him just one of 16 people to get inducted into both the Rock and Roll and Country Halls of Fame.
In 1958, Jerry Lee Lewis’ booming career took a bit of a nose dive after a British journalist revealed the singer married his 13-year-old cousin named Myra Gale Brown. Myra was revealed to be his third wife. He was only 22 at the time and quickly blackballed in the music industry. Radio stations stopped playing his songs, people boycotted his music, and even Dick Clark canceled his appearances on American Bandstand.
There was a time during his career when venues paid the singer $10,000 to perform a night. His price dropped down to $250 a performance following the scandal.
