Cartoon Network’s future might now be in Jeopardy after its latest merger with Warner Bros. This new announcement by the company has fans worried, especially after learning Cartoon Network Studios might completely be remodeled. Warner Bros. Discovery has been dealing with a lot of troubles lately and has already removed a lot of animated content from its platform.

Warner Bros. Television Group Recently Fired 82 Employees

Although the news of this merger was shared in the form of a meme company-wide, it doesn’t seem the employees are taking it well. The two studios are consolidating their animation teams in an effort to initiate a strategic realignment for Warner Bros. Discovery. This news of the merger comes right after the Warner Bros. Television Group fired 82 employees, of which 43 vacant positions won’t be filled.

These layoffs range from unscripted TV to scripted ones including the animation department as well. Sure enough, this announcement was among the many unprecedented moves by the company with regard to its animation catalog.

HBO Max Removed Several Series From Its Animated Catalog

Back in August, viewers learned that HBO Max was removing several animated titles from its catalog which included Infinity Train. These anime series were removed in conjunction with other cancellations that include Batgirl and Scoob: Holiday Haunt.

As per ComicBook, these titles were being removed as a part of cost-saving measures by the company. However, the animation creators criticized Warner Bros. Discovery for this unprecedented move.

So, how would this new merger affect the current Cartoon Network catalog? As per current reports, this consolidation might not impact the types of content the Cartoon Network team released previously. David DePasquale, the art director at Cartoon Network provided a statement clarifying the details of the merger.

He said, “These are decisions that affect real people, studios, & jobs. I work there. You can stand by whatever you’d like, but you sensationalizing it and guiding people to extrapolate that CNS is basically dead is really shitty, especially for those of us who still have a job there. Do better.”

Fans Trend RIP Cartoon Network On Twitter

Even though the two studios will keep their labels separate, they will share development and production teams. This decision doesn’t affect Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, Warner’s third studio, which will remain a separate entity.

Disappointed with this merger, fans took to social media as one wrote, “RIP Cartoon Network’s trending because The CEO at WB is incompetent.”

Another added, “Rip Cartoon Network Studios (as we know it). 1994-2022. While the brand will still exist, Cartoon Network Studios will be merged with Warner Bros. Animation.”

“The only Cartoon Network I’ll ever remember and celebrate is the one of the late 90s and 2000s. Miss that era still. However it sucks that people of this time are losing it. RIP Cartoon Network,” chimed a third fan.
