Michael made the move from Live! to Good Morning America, where he currently works. Six years, Kelly and Michael had a falling out because of his departure. Why did Michael Strahan leave Live?

Long before Ryan Seacrest became Kelly Ripa’s side-kick, Michael was her co-host. The two worked together on the show for four years. The former athlete got an offer to host Good Morning America. As TV Shows Ace previously reported, the secret behind Michael Strahan’s success is that he never turns down an opportunity.

He announced on Live! that he’s leaving the show for GMA. Kelly Ripa felt blindsided by his decision. She wasn’t informed about Michael’s move. In an interview with Variety in 2020, Kelly shared how she was feeling during that moment. The 51-year-old found out at the same time that the viewers and production did.

Kelly Ripa needed time to process this information. She returned from her hiatus to make an important speech about “communication, consideration and, most importantly, respect in the workplace.” This made things awkward for the co-hosts.

Michael’s last day was pushed up to reduce the awkward tension between them. Both of them still speak about that moment to this day. In an interview with The New York Times Magazine in January 2020, the former football player revealed that he no longer felt like he was “a part of the team on Live.” Kelly still mentioned it to this day, even subtly.

Kelly Ripa admits she “holds grudges”

Monday, September 5 saw the return of Live With Kelly and Ryan. Kelly Ripa admitted on air that she still “holds grudges.” Ryan asked her if she was happy with her husband, Mark Consuelos. He read off a list of things that happy couples never do together.

Kelly Ripa also shared that happy couples don’t keep score. Ryan asked her if she holds grudges. “Not really,” Kelly said at first but then backtracked. “I mean, not really. No. Not with each other. Other people though, yes.”

She looked into the camera and laughed. It’s obvious that she was talking about Michael Strahan. Ryan asked her if she has any grudges about her “35th season here.” Kelly assured him that they don’t hold any grudges against each other. He was relieved by her response.
