Jessica Willis Fisher Talks New Book, ‘Unspeakable’ Details
Jessica Willis Fisher was living every teenager’s dream. She was in a successful family band, The Willis Clan which ultimately landed their own TLC reality show. However, behind closed doors, there was a deep dark secret that was kept hidden behind lyrics and family smiles. It would ultimately lead to the cancelation of the series but Jessica would not speak out until now. With the release of her book, Unspeakable, she is finally sharing her truth with People. It is both haunting and cathartic as she dives head first into the deepest trauma.

As one of twelve children, Jessica’s family prided themselves on their musicality. They performed as The Willis Clan, made up of eight girls and four boys. This landed them a coveted spot on Season 9 of America’s Got Talent. They performed so well that they ended up in the quarter-finals back in 2014. Obviously, being such a fun and niche group, TLC sought them out for a reality show, The Willis Family.
It revolved around the Willis’ writing, recording, and attempting to be an average family. Of course, underneath the smiles and music, were some very dark secrets. Patriarch Toby Willis was arrested on four counts of child rape. Obviously, their series was canceled and the family had to figure out how to cope with what had just transpired.
Though some of her siblings chose to come forward about what had happened, Jessica stayed silent. She was not ready to talk about the years of abuse she endured starting at the age of sixteen. There was a lot to compartmentalize and, despite Toby being sentenced to forty years, it did not erase what had happened. It has taken six years but finally, Jessica has come out with her book. Set for a November release, she is speaking out to People about what it took to get to where she is.
Speaking On The Unspeakable
Now happily married, Jessica Willis Fisher refers to this book as her “witness statement.” She is now saying all that she could not for years prior. “This book does not say everything that happened to me, but it’s what I am ready to say at this time. I was just trying to make sense of what happened to me but laying it out was really challenging,” the thirty-year-old shares. Though she admits that she had her time to speak much earlier, she is now doing it on her terms, when she feels ready.
“I was given the chance to say something, and I didn’t. I wasn’t ready.” She goes on to note that she was still searching for the proper words. To help her formulate this book, Jessica went through a bunch of old journals. They helped stir up all of the “pure and raw” information that was needed to fill in all of the blanks. Admittedly, she was made to believe that she had her facts wrong for a very long time. So, she had to find a way of understanding that she had been hiding a very painful secret and come to grips with that.

Therapy, at the age of twenty-four, was really when the notion of a book clicked. Jessica realized she could help herself while helping others through their pain. She also notes that it’s not just her family who has gone through this but rather this is something that has been going on forever. It won’t go away any time soon yet now that she is no longer hiding, she is allowing herself to feel.
