‘Unexpected’ Why Does McKayla Adkins Have Full Custody Of Kids?
Unexpected alum McKayla Adkins now has three children. Yet she was apparently granted full custody of the two she has with her ex, Caelan Morrison. Now fans want to know what the reasoning behind that is so they, of course, took to Reddit for all of the answers.
McKayla’s Unexpected Past
Viewers first met McKayla when the hit TLC reality series began. She struggled to make things work as a pregnant teenager with her boyfriend, Caelan. They welcomed a baby boy named Timothy and then she shocked everyone when she shared she was pregnant again. It was truly unexpected. To be fair, the young couple really did try to make it work. They moved in together, they talked about marriage, and they welcomed a baby girl named Gracelynn. Unfortunately, things just did not work out and they broke up. Despite McKayla leaving the show after Season 3, she still maintained a presence. She was very popular on YouTube though she did decide to occasionally take a hiatus. There was also a point where she discussed how toxic being on the show actually was.
Luckily, she ended up meeting a nice guy named Ethan and they dated for about a year before she shared they were expecting. The two also got engaged and soon revealed they had a whirlwind wedding. Sadly, she had a miscarriage but she assured her followers that the pregnancy was very much planned. Within just a few months, McKayla and Ethan shared the news that they were expecting their rainbow baby and in April, their baby was born. It was an extremely special day for the couple yet now questions regarding custody of her two other kids have started to circulate.
Full Custody But How?
A Redditor was watching an old episode of Unexpected and overheard someone say that McKayla had full custody of Tim and Gracelynn. They were confused but as they watched longer, it was clarified. Here is why the mother gets full custody per a male lawyer on the series: “He said that in Ohio, since they aren’t married, an unwed mother is the full custodian until the courts grant him some sort of custody. Wow!!! That’s insane!” So that is the quick and simple reason why McKayla has full custody of her babies with Caelan. As for what fellow Redditors had to say, that is a different story:
- “It’s crazy to me. In my state, both parents have full custody immediately upon birth.”
- “I was in the same county as McKayla. Mother has full rights until the father takes her to court regardless if he signed the paternity paper at birth”
Yet one person added that McKayla has shared Caelan can see them any time he wants to. However, he chooses not to so it is now down to a personal choice.
