‘My 600-Lb. Life’ Viewers Don’t Really Want To See Success Stories?
My 600-Lb. Life has been a staple of TLC for many years. Since then, fans have had the chance to see many different kinds of cases. Some guests are successful and some aren’t.
But what kind of episodes do My 600-Lb. Life viewers really want to see? Keep reading to see what one Reddit thread uncovered.
Reddit users admit to only watching My 600-Lb. Life for one kind of patient
There have been previous Reddit polls that discuss the real reason that viewers tune into My 600-Lb. Life. While some viewers are really interested in the success stories, it really seems like that isn’t the main reason that people watch.
In actuality, it seems like the episodes that feature guests that are rude, outrageous, or completely disobey with Dr. Now’s orders draw in the most viewers.
The original poster in the Reddit thread asks whether or not any other viewers believe the episode quality has gone downhill.
“I’m not sure if it’s limited resources or what, but in the earlier seasons, you’d get that inspirational message from the participant, and you’d see genuine effort and results,” OP writes. “Even though a year isn’t a long time, and it’s a big process, you’d see some major changes at least starting. Now, it feels like the majority of episodes are participants who don’t lose any weight, don’t ever [qualify] for the surgery, and in some cases never even weigh in.”
But the rest of the thread didn’t necessarily agree.
“This is gonna sound bad but I only watch the episodes where the patients are horrible 😬,” admitted one Reddit user. “I find them more interesting than the ones where patients put in effort.”
“Those are definitely my favorites too… I couldn’t look away from Lisa E’s train wreck of an episode,” confessed another My 600-Lb. Life viewer.
Some fans still appreciate the inspirational guests and success stories
Although viewers said they didn’t routinely watch the success cases, Laura Perez was one guest that got a lot of attention. When My 600-Lb. Life viewers first met Laura, she weighed nearly 600 lbs. But today, she’s in the 180 lb region. This is one monumental success case!
Guests like Steven Assanti might be frequently talked about and viewed, but there’s still a fan base for guests like Laura Perez too.
