As more information comes out about the cast of My 600-Lb Life, people have begun to question the authenticity of the show. More specifically, are the cast’s obesity histories fact or fiction? Here’s why people are questioning it.
Growing Up Obese And Recounting It On The Show
People who appear on My 600-Lb Life often recall stories of growing up overweight. They will say something like, “By the time I was seven years old, I weighed 150 pounds.”
This gets the obvious shocking reaction from viewers. How could anyone weigh 300 pounds at 10 years old? More recently, fans of the show have started to speak out about abuse, neglect, and other troubling things about the show.

At times, these pieces of information seem unbelievable. Some things just don’t add up. Now people are asking whether it is feasible that the cast members actually remember their weights at different ages.

Redditors have taken to dissecting My 600-Lb Life more recently. Many people have questioned whether or not the show is authentic and have criticized the production company because of the way it allegedly treats the patients featured in any given episode.
It has even gotten to the point that viewers have started questioning whether or not Dr. Now’s lines are rehearsed. Now, people are wondering if the histories provided by the patients are accurate. One Redditor started a discussion and stated, “I am astounded how every participant can rattle off their weight at young ages.”

Yet, the poster pointed out, that when it comes time to go to the doctor, they have no idea how much they weigh on the show. The poster went on to say that they don’t remember their weight prior to age 17. So, how is it that each patient on the show can recount yearly weights?
Other viewers of the show were quick to chime in. Some people agreed that it is unlikely that they would be able to remember their exact weight at different stages of their lives, especially because it has gotten so out of control. One person theorized that a doctor may help them estimate their weight, based on photos from their childhoods.
However, there are some people in the thread that believe it is possible that they would recall such a thing. “I think they know what they weighed then cuz they were battling with their weight. and it was an obvious issue,” one person chimed in.
Another said, “Yeah. That and you’re weighed all the time (doctor visits at a minimum) and probably with a parent complaining that you weigh XXX and are fat compared to all the other kids.”
