Wendy Williams Execs Give Answers On Future Of Show
The Wendy Williams Show executives are finally addressing the future of the daytime talk show. It’s hard to see a world without the host who’s known for her “Hot Topics” segment. However, Wendy has been fraught with both physical and mental health issues. She was in and out of rehab for her substance abuse.
At the time, she was dealing with her divorce from her ex-husband Kevin Hunter. Once she got back out on the dating scene, she was hiding her private struggles. In the past year, Wendy’s dealt with health issues stemming from COVID-19 and Grave’s disease.
Rumors about the future of her talk show surfaced
The Wendy Williams Show was hit with cancelation rumors earlier this month. Wendy made a public appearance for the first time in months. She claimed that she was “doing fabulous” upon leaving a wellness center in Miami. Yet, it didn’t take long for reporters to ask her if she’s “sad” that her show was “canceled.”
Nothing was confirmed at the time. The show is experiencing an uptick in ratings during her absence. Viewers are tuning in to see who will sit in her coveted purple throne. Rumors swirl that The View alum Sherri Shepherd could replace Wendy on the show.
Meanwhile, producers weren’t sure what to do with the show. They knew that they could no longer go on without her. A likely solution would be to reboot the show. Due to her ongoing health issues, it’s unclear whether Wendy will ever be well enough to host the show again.
Producers have been searching for a replacement. The talk show returned in September without Wendy at the helm. Instead, a series of celebrity guests have filled in her spot. They’re all being tested for the new hosting position that’s opened. So, what does this mean for Wendy and the future of the show? Read on to learn more.
Wendy Williams isn’t returning anytime soon
According to a new report, Wendy Williams has no plans to return to her talk show. She may not return until February 2022. On Wednesday, December 7, the show announced that guest hosts will continue to replace her throughout the month of January when the show returns from its holiday hiatus. Celebrity guest hosts include Fat Joe, Michael Rapaport, and Remy Ma.
Finess Mitchell and Kym Whitley will also guest-host, along with fan-favorite Sherri Shepherd. Producers weren’t clear on whether Wendy will return in February to host the remainder of Season 13. It wouldn’t matter anyway since the show hasn’t been renewed beyond that point. The future of the show is still unclear at the time of this writing.
“Even if she did come back, she’d be a lame duck because her show isn’t renewed beyond this season,” an insider told Page Six.
Wendy may have no interest in returning to the show due to her health issues. She’s been keeping quiet about her private health battle. She previously broke her silence on Instagram, explaining that her recovery is “taking longer than expected.” Do you see The Wendy Williams Show coming back? Sound off below in the comment section.
