My 600-Lb. Life: Mike Meginness Living A Nightmare, Can’t Stop Binge Eating
When Michael Meginness weighs in at Dr. Now’s office for the first time, he weighs in at 745 pounds. Dr. Now seems skeptical that Mike is ready to turn his life around after digging into his life story. Dr. Now learns that Mike doesn’t have a lot to look forward to, has no job, lives with his parents, doesn’t do much of anything, lost his wife, and has no real goals. The TLC doctor tells Michael he’ll have to stop making excuses and stop letting bad situations in life control his eating habits.
Things look grim when viewers first meet Michael. He reveals he’s living in a windowless room six feet under the ground. Living in the basement of his parent’s home does not give him any type of view of the outside world. He spends most of his free time laying on his bed and playing video games. He explains that he’ll watch television or play games all hours of the day in night.
According to the My 600-Lb. Life star, sleeping is a little like rolling the dice. If he’s lucky, he’ll get a good night’s sleep of 12 or 13 hours. But, because of his health and his weight, some nights he’s lucky to sleep more than two hours.
Forced To Choose Between His Kids And His Health
My 600-Lb. Life star Mike Meginness lands in a difficult situation when he realizes Dr. Now requires him to move to Texas. Michael is currently fighting for some form of custody with his ex-wife over his four children. And, he’s been told that if he moves to Texas he will lose all custody of his children. Mike tells Dr. Now via zoom call that moving to Texas to be a part of his program simply isn’t an option. He’s not willing to choose his health over his children. As long as Michael continues to make progress, Dr. Now agrees that he’s willing to work with him traveling back and forth. But, Michael is not allowed to miss any appointments and he must continue making progress.
By the end of the episode, My 600-Lb. Life star Mike Meginness had made tons of progress losing just shy of 250 pounds. Dr. Now was worried about his progress because he didn’t think he had been losing as much weight as he would have liked to see him lose. But, he was happy enough with the progress to allow Mike to continue to live in Ohio while making the trip to Texas for his appointments.
