Sharna Burgess Says Romance With Her Dance Partner Is A ‘Disadvantage’
It’s hard to deny that pro dancer Sharna Burgess and her celebrity partner Brian Austin Green have a real connection in the ballroom. After all, the two are dating in real life. They struck up a romance nearly a year ago and the rest is history.
However, it’s not always rainbows and butterflies. In fact, Sharna admits that having a romance with her dance partner is actually putting them at a serious disadvantage.
Sharna Burgess comes clean about the challenges of performing with her boyfriend
Make no mistake about it — Sharna Burgess and Brian Austin Green are incredibly happy. But dancing is Sharna’s full-time job. And bringing your boyfriend to work can be challenging at times.
“Honestly, it’s almost a disadvantage,” the 36-year-old dancer told Us Weekly in a recent interview. “We have this sensitivity when minding each other’s feelings. We want to make sure our relationship is good outside of it. That’s always going to be a priority for us.”
“People are expecting this intense chemistry all the time on the dance floor,” Sharna continued. “And if it’s not there, then people are like, ‘They don’t have chemistry.’ Dance is so different. … We are doing our very best with it.”
She went on to say that she believes that Brian gives his all on the dance floor, even though they’ve received pretty average scores from the judges.
“I also accept that maybe I’m a little bit biased,” she jokingly told Us Weekly.
The pair defends themselves from harsh rumors
The chemistry you see on TV isn’t just for show — it’s real life. But even so, many fans are accusing Brian and Sharna of faking their relationship for the show. This is typically known as a “showmance” in reality TV circles.
Sharna quickly shut those rumors down. She took to Instagram to defend her relationship with The Masked Dancer star.
“For those that say we kiss too much, here’s a full 🍑 grab instead 😂,” she began before getting a little more serious.
“But for real though, we kissed once in the first show that’s it. This isn’t a showmance, this is real life love and it’s a part of our journey. … And anyone that thinks it’s an advantage I can assure you, it’s not. ITS SUPER HARD!”
Not every DWTS realizes this, but Brian and Sharna were actually supposed to compete together back in Season 29.
“It’s definitely better that Brian wasn’t my dance partner on Dancing With the Stars because I don’t ever get romantically involved with my partners,” the dancer told Parade. “For me, that is business; it’s work. It’s my passion. I want it to be perfect. And I think those that sometimes get personally connected in ways others than dance and friendships, it can overcomplicate matters. And so, I like to do a good job, and the dancing comes first.”
Hopefully, things aren’t too complicated for the couple this year. DWTS fans really enjoy seeing their electrifying chemistry on stage!
Tune into ABC on Monday and Tuesday night for an exciting double feature! We can’t wait to see what Disney week holds for these two love birds.
