Connie Chung Livid At ‘Greedy’ Owners, Blames Them For CBS Crash
You couldn’t turn a TV on in the 1990s without seeing Connie Chung or her real-life husband, Maury Povich. While he entertained fans with dramatic “Who’s The Daddy” segments on his talk show, his wife was a serious journalist. At the time, she was the second-ever woman to co-anchor the nightly news. Now, she opened up about her true thoughts on the new owners of CBS. Keep reading to find out why she called them “greedy.”
Connie Chung Left CBS Amid Claims Of Sexism
Connie Chung is a legendary news anchor. She’ll go down in history as the second woman to ever anchor the nightly news on cable. She was named Dan Rather’s co-anchor in 1993. She was only briefly in the role until he took over as the sole anchor.

Connie Chung left the network shortly after she was demoted in 1995. She eventually landed at ABC in 1997 before leaving for CNN in 2002. In her 2024 memoir, Connie, the iconic anchor called out Dan Rather for his refusal to share the spotlight, costing her the co-anchor position.
Former Anchor Lived Over ‘Greedy’ New Owners
Connie Chung owns the Montana Beacon newspaper with her husband. They have a home in Bigfork, Montana. But she’s nowhere near ready to retire. The longtime couple, who married in 1984, joined the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast earlier this week for a chat. The popular news anchor did not hold back about the changes happening at CBS News.

The network’s parent company, Paramount Global, merged with Skydance Media in August. Thousands of employees were laid off following the merger to cut costs. In addition to support staff, several big-name anchors abruptly quit the news division. CBS Evening News co-anchors John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois are leaving the program later this month.
CBS Mornings co-anchor Gayle King is reportedly out in 2026 once her contract expires. Connie Chung blasted the network’s new owners for the upheaval. “CBS is a whole different organization that I had worked for,” she said.
She added, “CBS has now been taken over thanks to greedy owners, Shari Redstone, partnering with David Ellison, Larry Ellison’s son. Their greed has caused the venerable CBS to actually disassemble, to crash into crumbles.”
Things were different in her day.
She Slams Editor-In-Chief Bari Weiss
“When I worked at CBS, it was owned by William Paley, and he actually made it a point of allowing the news division to be autonomous and not have to worry about the bottom line,” the former CBS anchor said on the podcast. She called out the new editor in chief for CBS News, Bari Weiss.
She had zero faith that the new editor in chief could “possibly restore” the news division to what it used to be. Before joining CBS News, Bari Weiss ran the opinion website The Free Press. More changes are expected at CBS as the new owners take the reins.
