Police Search Landfill For Missing 11-Year-Old Brooklyn Boy With Autism
Police are searching for a young boy with autism whose mother reportedly denied having a child when asked by authorities. The boy, who was described as being 11 years old, had gone missing after a welfare check at his mother’s Brooklyn apartment. Reportedly, officers have even searched a landfill, one 300 miles away from where the boy lived, in the hopes of finding him. Neighbors have also commented on the story.
A Welfare Check In Brooklyn Sparked The New York Police Department’s Investigation Into The Missing Boy
Officers are searching for Jacob Pritchett, also spelled “Jacob Pritchette” by some outlets. The 11-year-old boy was described as being nonverbal and being on the autism spectrum.
The investigation concerning where Jacob is started on September 25, 2025. Police initially became aware of the situation after a welfare check at his mother’s apartment on Brooklyn’s Howard Avenue.

As noted by WHAM, the boy’s mother initially denied having a child at the time. However, police later found a birth certificate listing her as Jacob’s mother. According to WABC, she was later taken to a hospital for evaluation. At this time, no charges have been filed against her.
One Neighbor Described Regularly Seeing The Boy In The Window Before He Went Missing
The search for the missing boy took authorities over 300 miles away to a landfill in Monroe County. Prior to this, officers reportedly searched the building, the backyard, and some nearby dumpsters, but were unable to find any signs of Jacob. A new turn in the case also reportedly brought police to High Acres Landfill in Perinton.
This was because refuse from New York City could end up in these landfills due to local contracts. Police reported that they had been in the Perinton area due to a “hunch.”

Police would later share a sketch of Jacob, as well as a photo of his mother, to help aid in the search. In a feed shared by WHAM, locals shared their concern for Jacob. As one neighbor noted, “It makes you feel scared and nervous. And it’s like, it’s scary. Because we’re all supposed to be, like a community sticking together.”
Another neighbor shared, “I would always see a little boy in the window playing with his toys by himself. Making noise. And since all of this has taken place, I just… I realize to myself, like, the boy is not in the window. No, more like I haven’t seen him. So, it’s a sad situation.”
According to WHAM, New York State Police later shared that the search was now “complete.” However, further details were not shared concerning the case.
