Kanye West Publicly Struggles With Mental Health

Kanye West has struggled publicly with emotional outbursts. The Rapper shared that he has Bipolar disorder and struggles to maintain a balanced demeanor. He has had numerous incidents where an outburst has gotten him in serious trouble. During the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to say Beyoncé deserved the award. That incident solidified his reputation as being emotionally unstable in public spaces. He has also had confrontations at the Grammys. He has threatened to storm the stage when he felt snubbed, as he felt he should have won.

Kanye West frequently had volatile relationships with the Kardashian-Jenner clan. The documentary In Whose Name?, which premiered recently, features the details of their relationships. The doc follows the rapper over a period of six years as he publicly spiraled. However, one shocking scene features West berating Kris Jenner. In addition, he is featured accusing the Kardashian/Jenner family of “Emasculating” him and making his mental health issues worse. The moment has shocked fans, considering West shares children with Jenner’s daughter, Kim Kardashian.

Kanye West Verbally Attacks Kris Jenner

Kanye West is seen verbally abusing his ex-mother-in-law in the new documentary, In Whose Name?. The rapper is arguing with his wife, Kim Kardashian, when her mother, Kris Jenner, walks in. Kanye, who is already fired up from fighting with his wife, turns to Jenner and yells at her:

“Y’all emasculated me and made me feel like a piece of sh**. I’d rather be dead, not in jail, I’d rather be dead than to be on medication. No one from the family has taken any responsibility for my hospital visit. But if you wanna go online, that’s 50% of what people say, at least, or maybe, am I lying?”

West was referencing his 2016 hospitalization for exhaustion, that caused him to cancel the rest of his tour that year. Kris Jenner responded to his tantrum by saying it didn’t matter what people on the internet thought. However, this fueled Kanye’s anger even further. He yelled at her “It does matter! It does matter!” She responded to him:

“I didn’t finish my sentence. It matters to us and you. It doesn’t matter what the internet says. It matters what we think, Ye.”

Kanye proceeds to shout at her, “So what do you think, did you have an effect on my mental health?” referring to his hospitalization. Jenner tells him:

“Yes, yes, I’m saying yes, And I love you. I love you. I don’t want you to be not perfect. I love you and I want my daughter to love you the way you want her to love you.”

In addition, Kris Jenner brakes down in tears following the rappers verbal outburst. Ultimately Kanye West and Kim Kardashian ended up filing for divorce in 2021 citing irreconcilable difference. However, the decision was heavily driven by his behavior and mental health struggles. In addition, West has continued to publicly comment on Kim, custody issues, and his frustrations with co-parenting.
