Kentucky Cheerleader Arrested For Abuse Of A Corpse, Dead Infant Found
A University of Kentucky cheerleader was recently arrested after allegedly hiding an infant’s body. The deceased child was also notably found inside a trash bag within a closet. Since then, she has been facing various charges, including the abuse of a corpse.
Lexington Police Were Dispatched To Reports Of An Unresponsive Infant, Who Was Later Pronounced Dead At The Scene
Laken Snelling was described as a 21-year-old University of Kentucky athlete. She was also said to be a senior at the school and a STUNT team member, which is part of the school’s cheerleading program.
Snelling was recently taken into police custody after officers were following reports of an unresponsive infant at a residence on August 27. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to WLEX, the “infant was located wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag.” The body was then placed inside a closet.
According to a citation, Snelling was later Mirandized and interviewed. She “admitted to giving birth,” confirming her as the infant’s biological mother.
Snelling then reportedly “admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel.”
The University of Kentucky also issued the following statement: “We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons. All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police.”
The Infant’s Cause Of Death Was Said To Be Currently Under Investigation
Snelling now faces a number of charges. These include abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant.
Snelling recently posted a $100,000 bond in court. She is currently “home incarceration with no ankle monitor” and is also said to be living with parents in Tennessee at this time. Reportedly, she also entered a not guilty plea. She is also scheduled for a court appearance on September 26, 2025.

At this time, the Fayette County Coroner’s Office was said to be investigating the infant’s cause of death. According to Fox News, the Lexington Police Department also shared that its “Special Victims Section is continuing to investigate.”
The University of Kentucky Athletics also described STUNT as a “head-to-head competition between two teams that focuses on the technical and athletic aspects of cheer. The sport was also described as “one of the fastest-growing female sports in the United States.” Snelling was also listed as a team member on its website.
