Scheana Shay of Vanderpump Rules is opening up about her battle with depression. This is a battle that nobody even knew she was having, but this week on her podcast, she talked about it all. She talked about how it all started around the time that she did The Masked Singer on her “Scheananigans” podcast.

Scheana Shay Gets Honest

Scheana is opening up in a way that fans haven’t heard from her before. She has been dealing with depression and is bringing awareness to this issue. Scheana Shay said, “I have really just been feeling depressed the last six months. It was something that I kept trying to just mask and say, ‘No, I’m fine. It’ll go but it all started around The Masked Singer.”

She was unsure about joining the show, but did it anyway. Scheana explained her thoughts:

“I got asked to do the show. I immediately was like, ‘Hard pass, absolutely not.’ I didn’t care how much money they’re paying me. I was not going to go on another show on national television just to get made fun of. This was something that was so far out of my comfort zone. That was so scary to go on a show that’s primetime national television.”

Scheana’s Time On The Masked Singer

It turns out that Scheana only made it through one episode of the show and was sent home. This brought up her fears that she would be made fun of for it. She was the bat and sang a Sabrina Carpenter song called “Espresso.” She melted down in her trailer because of fears of being made fun of. This is the whole reason that Scheana almost didn’t even do the show in the first place.

She ended up having to up her Zoloft and realized that she just wasn’t taking enough. She had to make it through the holidays, which is never an easy time. Scheana went on to say, “It was just a few really heavy months emotionally. Then we’re in March and the show’s airing. Now I really need to focus on what’s been brewing and what’s going on. Because I felt like getting sent home first was part of it — but it couldn’t be all of it.”  She is now getting to film some of The Valley with her friends, which is great for her.

Are you surprised to hear that Scheana Shay was silently battling with depression? Are you glad to see her bring awareness to this issue? Sound off in the comments below on your thoughts.
