The Bachelorette alum Katie Thurston is defending her surrogacy journey, stating that the “judging” needs to end. Keep reading for more details and what Katie had to say.
Katie Thurston Defends Surrogacy, ‘Judging’ Needs To End
When the former Bachelorette star Katie Thurston learned she had breast cancer, she immediately thought of her future. She and her now-husband, Jeff Arcuri, do want to have children, but chemotherapy can make that impossible. Therefore, she dedicated two weeks to her fertility journey so that she could be a mom one day if she so chose to. Her eggs were retrieved and then frozen with Katie and Jeff soon secretly tying the knot. This was a big step toward forever, but they were ready for it.

Sadly, Katie learned her breast cancer had spread to her liver, making her stage 4. She will undergo six initial rounds of chemotherapy and take it from there. At the same time, she has had to think about what will happen with her eggs. Can she safely carry a baby, or will it be too challenging? Due to her having cancer, surrogacy has been deemed the best option for her and Jeff to start a family. A fan asked her if this was the route she would “have to” take, and she responded with this:
“I never like the word ‘have to’ with anything medical-related, kind of like ‘never say never.’ However, yes, Jeff and I discussed the importance of my health and that, when the time comes, surrogacy will likely be the best option for us.”

Unfortunately, not everyone has been supportive of Katie Thurston’s surrogacy journey. So, she wanted to make it clear that people on the outside looking in have no idea why public figures turn to surrogacy:
“[This is] a friendly reminder to stop judging celebrities who pursue surrogacy. You don’t know what they have going on in their personal lives.”
Doing Her Best To Get By
Right now, The Bachelorette alum is doing her best to get by while sharing a lot with her followers. Katie Thurston explained that she is putting herself into early menopause as a way to protect her ovaries. However her future is very uncertain, but she is staying as positive as possible. Katie believes that the spots on her liver are small so she will defeat all of this. More importantly, things were found early, so that makes the prognosis even better. She has immense amounts of support from fans and followers who truly believe she will make it through:
- My heart just breaks for her. My brother got diagnosed with cancer and no one can understand the way everyone’s lives flip upside down when a young person gets diagnosed with this. I pray for her recovery.
- I was diagnosed at 29 years old with inflammatory breast cancer. I am now going on 28 years cancer free. Sending positive healing.
- katie is so strong, she’s dealt with so many punches and keeps rolling with them all.
As long as she tunes out the noise and focuses on herself, Katie Thurston will more than beat this. Are you happy she took a stand against surrogacy bashing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
