‘CBS Mornings’ Big Move For Gayle King Amid Mass Cost Cuts

CBS Mornings is making a move. However, this has nothing to do with its time slot or the television network itself. Instead, it is a move happening behind the scenes. It is also a move that has Gayle King reportedly furious. She considers this particular decision to be an “insult” to her and the morning talk show in general.
Here is where CBS Mornings is moving to and why it isn’t a good thing for the morning talk show.
CBS Mornings, Gayle King Moving Filming Locations
Gayle King and CBS Mornings were moved to the impressive Times Square studio. This was a big deal, and it showed the network’s confidence in Gayle and her morning talk show. However, while the show has dropped in ratings behind both Good Morning America and The Today Show, CBS has seemingly lost confidence in the series.

In a shocking move, CBS demanded that the talk show and Gayle return to their old studio at the CBS Broadcast Center. According to The New York Post, the move is “all about saving money.” The network said the show has to move back to the old location later this year.
The timing is also strange since Gayle had considered offers to leave CBS Mornings for CNN. Instead, she remained loyal and signed a one-year extension to remain on the talk show. Despite her loyalty, CBS decided she wasn’t worth keeping at the nice new location, which has been in Times Square since 2021.
At the time, a CBS executive said that all CBS News morning broadcasts would remain part of the same family in Times Square. It seems the new regime doesn’t hold Gayle, Tony Dokoupil, and Nate Burleson in the same high respect and is splitting them off from the rest of the team. It also seems this is CBS saying they are not willing to keep competing with GMA and Today.
CBS Planning A Big Merger After Move
Gayle King and CBS Mornings might just be collateral damage to a big move the network has planned. CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon was ordered to cut costs as CBS plans for a merger with Skydance Media. She was told to cut $500 million from the budget.

CBS Mornings will share the same studio with CBS Evening News, which was also recently overhauled. Anchor Norah O’Donnell left the show, and there are rumors Gayle King might be considering the same. Other big moves included Ingrid Ciprián-Matthews stepping down as CBS News president. Adrienne Roark replaced her and then left just six months later.
“The atmosphere at CBS News is one of fear,” a source said. “Nobody opens their mouths because they are scared of losing their jobs.” However, as she has proven in the past, Gayle King is not afraid to speak her mind.
