American Idol has returned for Season 23 and it’s already come with a few celebrity guest stars, even in the audition room. Carnie Wilson of Wilson Phillips fame recently made an appearance with her daughter auditioning for the show. Notably, Carnie isn’t the only famous musician to be related to one of the contestants this season or make such an appearance.

For Carnie Wilson, Music Is A Family Business, Spanning At Least Three Generations

Carnie is herself the daughter of musician and record producer Brian Wilson. In her own musical career, Carnie is arguably best known for being part of Wilson Phillips.

As seen in the name, the band teamed Carnie up with her younger sister Wendy and Chynna Phillips, the daughter of The Mamas & The Papas’ John and Michelle Phillips. The group’s best known hit is arguably one of their first lead singles, “Hold On,” and the Christmas song, “Hey Santa!”

Music clearly runs in Carnie’s family and it seems like the next generation is no exception. On this most recent season of American Idol, Carnie’s daughter Lola Sofia Bonfiglio appeared as a contestant.

Lola herself revealed she would be appearing on the reality show on Instagram. In one post, she shared, “Surprise surprise. I auditioned for @americanidol !! tune in on march 23rd to see my results.”

Another American Idol Contestant Also Recently Had A Famous Relative Appear During Their Audition

However, a clip has surfaced revealing something surprising during Lola’s audition for the show. Released by Entertainment Tonight, Carnie herself can be seen joining Lola on the American Idol audition room.

The video’s title said that Carnie “crashed” her daughter’s audition, suggesting her appearance was a surprise, or that the judges asked her for an impromptu performance. The mother and daughter then sang “Hold On” together. Carrie Underwood, who joined Season 23 as a judge, could also be seen, and heard, singing along.

Notably, this isn’t the first time this season that the series has had a contestant’s audition come with a celebrity guest star. As previously reported, Backstreet Boys member, Brian Littrell’s son, Baylee, also auditioned this season. Similarly, Brian was also asked for an impromptu performance following his son’s audition, causing the father and son to perform a duet together.

Notably, this isn’t Lola’s first television performance. Previously, she appeared with her mother, aunt, and grandfather on The Kelly Clarkson Show back in 2021.

At the time, Lola described the appearance on Instagram. As she noted at the time, “what an amazing opportunity. Thank you to all who made it possible! i’m so grateful and i can’t wait for our episode of [The Kelly Clarkson Show] to air. 2 days… June 24! Yayayay!”

Lola’s audition will air on the March 23 episode of American Idol’s Season 23. Fans will have to tune in to see if she gets the golden ticket and moves on.
