‘NCIS’ Alum Mark Harmon Reprises Role On Another Franchise

Mark Harmon is best known for his work with the NCIS franchise. Most notably, he has been part of the prequel series, NCIS Origins. However, his next role has also recently come to light and will also see him return to a previous character.
Mark Harmon’s Next Role Is Unrelated To NCIS, But Will Still Be Familiar
For many, Mark Harmon is best known for his role as Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS. He first portrayed the character in 2002 in episodes of The West Wing.
Many fans were upset to see Harmon depart the role in 2021. Notably, the character left on a high note, putting his part behind him as her started over in Alaska.

However, Harmon would continue to be part of the NCIS franchise. He would eventually serve as the narrator of NCIS Origins and even appear in the first episode. Notably, the prequel series focuses on Agent Gibbs’ early career.
However, it’s recently come to light that Harmon is set to make a return to another franchise he was once part of. Harmon will reprise his character, Ryan, from the Disney comedy Freaky Friday, in its upcoming sequel.
In the original 2003 film, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan starred as a mother and daughter who switches bodies due to a spell. Harmon’s character Ryan was the fiancé of Curtis’ character, Tess Coleman.
Harmon Recently Spoke About Reuniting With Jamie Lee Curtis
Freaky Friday is itself based on the 1972 book of the same name. Over the years, it has also been adapted into several films aside from the 2003 incarnation, including films in 1976, 1995, and 2018.
In the upcoming sequel, Freakier Friday, Harmon, Curtis, and Lohan are set to reprise their characters from the earlier film. In this installment, Lohan’s character Anna has a daughter and a soon-to-be-stepdaughter, somewhat paralleling her mother’s remarriage in the earlier film. Another spell causes Anna, Tess, and the girls to switch places.
Harmon spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the sequel film, particularly reuniting with Curtis. As he noted, “It’s comfortable with Jamie and always has been. I’ve known her since she was 15 or 16.”
“Obviously, it’s a different story now, and yet I enjoy time with her. When you look at the long form of life, you’re talking about moments with people and sharing them and being with people you liked being with. That’s always been true about her for me, so I was pleased to do that.”
During the conversation, Harmon was also asked if he missed working on NCIS. He mused, “I actually don’t think like that. I was with the show a long time, and I don’t know anybody who thinks in terms of, ‘Hey, I’m going to do a pilot, and it’s going to last 20 years.'”
“That’s unheard of. But this show, obviously, has been successful through a number of different forms. This Origins thing is really a period piece. It’s 1990, back when it was NIS.”
