The president of ABC News has sent a memo detailing the future of Good Morning America. Big changes are expected for the show and the network overall. Notably, massive layoffs are expected to take place concerning the network.

A Memo Sent Out To Staff Discussed ‘Incredibly Challenging’ Decisions

Good Morning America has been a staple of ABC for years. The news program made its debut in 1975. Over the years, fans have tuned in to see news, interviews, weather reports, and various feature segments.

As a long-running program, viewers have seen various hosts over the years. The current list of on-air staff includes Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, Lara Spencer, and Ginger Zee.

However, as The New York Post reports, Almin Karamehmedovic, the president of ABC News, recently sent out a memo to employee. As it warned, big changes could soon be coming to the network.

The memo had been sent out this past Wednesday. As it read, “As we’ve often talked about, streamlining our operation to best serve our viewers and continue to position ourselves as a leading news organization has been a goal for some time.”

“Rethinking the way we work to future-proof our team regrettably includes reductions to our extraordinary staff. These decisions are incredibly challenging and today will undoubtedly be difficult for our organization.”

Karamehmedovic also noted, “It bears repeating how profoundly grateful and proud I am to be leading a truly remarkable team that consistently delivers the best our profession has to offer. As we look ahead, I remain confident in our ability to continue to set the bar for journalistic excellence. I am so proud of all that you do.”

New Plans Will Place A Lot Of Focus On Good Morning America

Notably, the memo comes out as the network is facing layoffs. According to the publication, a source claimed the layoffs will take place over Wednesday and Thursday. Staff at World News Tonight will also be impacted. At this time, Disney reportedly plans to lay off 200 people from the ABC News Group as well as its Disney Entertainment Networks unit.

Reportedly, ABC is planning to consolidate Good Morning America, as well as its third hour, GMA3, into a single production unit. At this time, ABC News also is reportedly looking into ways of improving ratings, with the program facing competition with NBC’s Today.

This means that Good Morning America will be given more focus by the network as these changes are implemented. Notably, this past fall saw local stations endure 75 job cuts due to the ongoing restructuring from Disney.

The publication also noted that there had also been speculation that Stephanopoulos might soon be departing. It has previously been believed he was unhappy following having to issue an on-air apology concerning a legal case involving President Donald Trump.

  1. One way to improve ratings is to replace George!!!!! He mumbles and it would be nice to see someone who is not so left. It is so very obvious.
