Hoda Kotb recently made headlines after announcing her departure from the Today show. However, Kotb recently returned to the show. Since then, fans are wondering if she has returned to stay.

Hoda Kotb Last Appeared On Today On January 10

Kotb officially became part of NBC News in 1998, serving as a correspondent for Dateline NBC and NBC News platforms. Starting in 2018, Kotb would also serve as a co-anchor for the Today. Prior to this, in 2007, she would serve as co-anchor for the Today show’s fourth hour.

That said, that would not be the last fans would see of Kotb on the show. On February 28, 2025, as noted by People, Kotb surprised viewers with an appearance on Today‘s third hour.

In a special video appearance, Kotb greeted Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer, who were reporting live in New Orleans in anticipation of Mardi Gras. As seen on the show, Roker teased her appearance, saying, “Before we go any further, I think we’ve got a very special person who knows this city well.”

Kotb herself shared, “Hey guys, wait a minute, are you in my city? Without me?” She continued, “Okay, Al, Craig, Dylan, you guys, I know what you’re going to do?”

Roker Also Shared A Mardi Gras Memory With Kotb

Kotb teased, “Eat all the food, yes you will, listen to all the music, yes you will. Enjoy what I believe is the best city on earth. Y’all have so much without me, wah wah, happy Mardi Gras!”

Roker also shared a past New Orleans memory with Kotb. He noted, “I will tell you, about 10 years ago I got to ride with Hoda on a float in the parade. It was like riding with the queen of England.”

New Orleans is quite important to Kotb. Before she started working on Today, Kotb first served as a reporter and anchor for a local New Orleans CBS affiliate, WWL. She also gave the 2016 commencement speech for Tulane University.

As noted, this appearance marks Kotb’s first proper return to the series since her January 10, 2025, exit. However, it’s unlikely that she will be here to stay in a more permanent position.

That said, fans could still expect to see Kotb from time to time on the show. Around the time she announced her departure, as noted by the publication, Kotb noted, “I plan to remain a part of the NBC family, the longest work relationship I’ve been lucky enough to hold close to my heart.”

As Kotb continued, “I’ll be around. How could I not? Family is family and you all will always be a part of mine.”
